2025-05-16wifi: rtw88: Fix the random "error beacon valid" messages for USBBitterblue Smith
All the USB devices have a problem in AP mode: uploading the updated beacon to the chip's reserved page can randomly fail: [34996.474304] rtw88_8723du 1-2:1.2: error beacon valid [34996.474788] rtw88_8723du 1-2:1.2: failed to download drv rsvd page [34999.956369] rtw88_8723du 1-2:1.2: error beacon valid [34999.956846] rtw88_8723du 1-2:1.2: failed to download drv rsvd page [34999.956855] rtw88_8723du 1-2:1.2: failed to download beacon [35017.978296] rtw88_8723du 1-2:1.2: error beacon valid [35017.978805] rtw88_8723du 1-2:1.2: failed to download drv rsvd page [35017.978823] rtw88_8723du 1-2:1.2: failed to download beacon [35023.200395] rtw88_8723du 1-2:1.2: error beacon valid [35023.200869] rtw88_8723du 1-2:1.2: failed to download drv rsvd page [35023.200875] rtw88_8723du 1-2:1.2: failed to download beacon [35478.680547] rtw88_8723du 1-2:1.2: error beacon valid [35478.681023] rtw88_8723du 1-2:1.2: failed to download drv rsvd page Disable some beacon-related hardware functions before uploading the beacon and enable them again after. 2024-12-23wifi: rtw88: Handle C2H_ADAPTIVITY in rtw_fw_c2h_cmd_handle()Bitterblue Smith
The firmware message C2H_ADAPTIVITY is currently handled in rtw_fw_c2h_cmd_rx_irqsafe(), which runs in the RX workqueue, but it's not "irqsafe" with USB because it sleeps (reads hardware registers). This becomes a problem after the next patch, which will create the RX workqueue with the flag WQ_BH. To avoid sleeping when it's not allowed, handle C2H_ADAPTIVITY in rtw_fw_c2h_cmd_handle(), which runs in the c2h workqueue. 2024-10-29wifi: rtw88: Support TX page sizes bigger than 128Bitterblue Smith
All the chips supported so far have a TX page size of 128 bytes. Change the type of the page_size member of struct rtw_chip_info from u8 to u16 in order to support RTL8821AU (page size of 256 bytes) and RTL8812AU (page size of 512 bytes). Also change the types of several related variables and function parameters from u8 to u16. The TX page size is used, among other things, to construct the beacon, null data, QOS null data, and PS poll templates which are uploaded to the chip's reserved page. Each template needs to be aligned on a multiple of the TX page size. Power saving can't work if the TX page size is wrong. 2024-10-29wifi: rtw88: Enable data rate fallback for older chipsBitterblue Smith
RTL8811AU fails to perform the 4-way handshake when the AP is too far because it transmits the EAPOL frames at MCS9 and when that doesn't work it retries 48 times with the same rate, to no avail. Retrying 48 times with the same rate seems pointless. Set the appropriate field in the TX descriptor to allow it to use lower rates when retrying. Set it for RTL8723D and RTL8703B because they interpret this field the same way as RTL8811A. The newer RTL8822C, RTL8822B, RTL8821C seem to interpret this field in the TX descriptor differently, so leave it alone for those chips. Tested with RTL8811AU and RTL8723DU. 2024-09-02wifi: rtw88: Fix USB/SDIO devices not transmitting beaconsBitterblue Smith
All USB devices supported by rtw88 have the same problem: they don't transmit beacons in AP mode. (Some?) SDIO devices are also affected. The cause appears to be clearing BIT_EN_BCNQ_DL of REG_FWHW_TXQ_CTRL before uploading the beacon reserved page, so don't clear the bit for USB and SDIO devices. Tested with RTL8811CU and RTL8723DU. 2024-04-04wifi: rtw88: Set default CQM config if not presentPo-Hao Huang
When wpa_supplicant is initiated by users and not by NetworkManager, the CQM configuration might not be set. 2023-06-21wifi: rtw88: fix not entering PS mode after AP stopsPo-Hao Huang
Without this patch, firmware only track beacons for port 0 and since we will always start AP on port 0, this results in misbehavior of power saving mode on other ports after AP stops. The "default port" H2C command is used to notify which port should firmware track. Update the correct settings to firmware so power saving mode can work properly. 2023-04-20wifi: rtw88: handle station mode concurrent scan with AP modePo-Hao Huang
This patch allows vifs sharing same hardware with the AP mode vif to do scan, do note that this could lead to packet loss or disconnection of the AP's clients. Since we don't have chanctx, update scan info upon set channel so bandwidth changes won't go unnoticed and get misconfigured after scan. Download beacon just before scan starts to allow hardware to get proper content to do beaconing. Last, beacons should only be transmitted in AP's operating channel. Turn related beacon functions off while we're in other channels so the receiving stations won't get confused. 2023-04-20wifi: rtw88: prevent scan abort with other VIFsPo-Hao Huang

2022-12-08wifi: rtw88: Drop h2c.lockSascha Hauer
The h2c.lock spinlock is used in rtw_fw_send_h2c_command() and rtw_fw_send_h2c_packet(). Most callers call this with rtwdev->mutex held, except from one callsite in the debugfs code. The debugfs code alone doesn't justify the extra lock, so acquire rtwdev->mutex in debugfs and drop the now unnecessary spinlock. 2022-11-28wifi: rtw88: fix race condition when doing H2C commandJi-Pin Jou
For SDIO/USB interface, since the tranferring speed is slower than that in PCIE, it may have race condition when the driver sets down H2C command to the FW. In the function rtw_fw_send_h2c_command, before the patch, box_reg is written first, then box_ex_reg is written. FW starts to work and fetch the value of box_ex_reg, when the most significant byte of box_reg(4 bytes) is written. Meanwhile, for SDIO/USB interface, since the transferring speed is slow, the driver is still in writing the new value of box_ex_reg through the bus, and FW may get the wrong value of box_ex_reg at the moment. To prevent the above driver/FW racing situation, box_ex_reg is written first then box_reg. Furthermore, it is written in 4 bytes at a time, instead of written in one byte one by one. It can increase the speed for SDIO/USB interface. 2022-05-01rtw88: fix hw scan may cause disconnect issueChih-Kang Chang
After scan aborts we still receive some hw scan c2h packets, and processing these c2h commands will change current channel. The disconnection happens when hw scan back to wrong op channel that device can't receive beacon from AP. 2022-04-12rtw88: Add update beacon flow for AP modePo-Hao Huang
To support stations in power saving mode, AP should notify stations that there are frames buffered at the AP via TIM during beacons. Driver used to transmit identical beacons that were downloaded to hardware during the initiation phase. This beacon will become obsolete over time. If the beacon does not contain sufficient information, station would not be able to percept that there is data to receive. Hence it won't wake up and start the PS-poll procedure, this could lead to timeout and/or lost data segments. In order to resolve this issue, driver will now download beacon to hardware whenever the content is updated. Enable hardware to update dtim_count for more efficiency, this reduces the overhead of downloading beacon at every beacon interval since most of the time only the dtim_count needs to be updated. Change queue mapping for broadcast/multicast frames to high queue, so these frames can be prioritized and sent when dtim_count is zero. Upon hw scan completion, idle mode is not re-entered. This might increase power consumption under no link mode. Fix this by adding the re-enter flow. 2021-12-21rtw88: 8822c: add ieee80211_ops::hw_scanPo-Hao Huang
Declare this function allows us to use customized scanning policy. By doing so we can be more time efficient on each scan. In order to make existing coex mechanism work as usual, firmware notifies driver on each channel switch event, then decide antenna ownership based on the current channel/band. Do note that this new mechanism affects throughput more than the sw_scan we used to have, but the overall average throughput is not affected since each scan take less time. Since the firmware size is limited, we only support probe requests with custom IEs length under 128 bytes for now, if any user space tools requires more than that, we'll introduce related changes afterwards. For backward compatibility, we fallback to sw_scan when using older firmware that does not support this feature.
