2025-04-03scsi: megaraid_sas: Block zero-length ATA VPD inquiryChandrakanth Patil
A firmware bug was observed where ATA VPD inquiry commands with a zero-length data payload were not handled and failed with a non-standard status code of 0xf0. Avoid sending ATA VPD inquiry commands without data payload by setting the device no_vpd_size flag to 1. In addition, if the firmware returns a status code of 0xf0, set scsi_cmnd->result to CHECK_CONDITION to facilitate proper error handling. Suggested-by: Martin K. Rename .slave_alloc() into .sdev_init() and .slave_destroy() into .sdev_destroy(). The new names make it clear that these are actions on SCSI devices. Make this change in the SCSI core, SCSI drivers and also in the ATA drivers. No functionality has been changed. This patch has been created as follows: * Change the text "slave_alloc" into "sdev_init" in all source files except those in drivers/net/ and Documentation/. * Change the text "slave_destroy" into "sdev_destroy" in all source files except those in drivers/net/ and Documentation/. * Rename lpfc_no_slave() into lpfc_no_sdev(). * Manually adjust whitespace where necessary to restore vertical alignment (dc395x driver and include/linux/libata.h). The workqueue maintainer wants to remove the create*_workqueue() macros because these macros always set the WQ_MEM_RECLAIM flag and because these only support literal workqueue names. Hence this patch that replaces the create*_workqueue() invocations with the definition of this macro. The WQ_MEM_RECLAIM flag has been retained because I think that flag is necessary for workqueues created by storage drivers. flexible array Replace the deprecated[1] use of a 1-element array in struct MR_HOST_DEVICE_LIST with a modern flexible array. One binary difference appears in megasas_host_device_list_query(): struct MR_HOST_DEVICE_LIST *ci; ... ci = instance->host_device_list_buf; ... memset(ci, 0, sizeof(*ci)); The memset() clears only the non-flexible array fields. Looking at the rest of the function, this appears to be fine: firmware is using this region to communicate with the kernel, so it likely never made sense to clear the first MR_HOST_DEVICE_LIST_ENTRY. 2023-03-06scsi: megaraid_sas: Add crash dump mode capability bit in MFI capabilitiesChandrakanth Patil
In kdump kernel mode, the driver works in reduced functionality mode with some features disabled such as reduced MSI-X count and RDPQ disabled, etc. However, the firmware is not aware of this mode in some cases, which results in undefined behavior. To address this, the driver informs the firmware about the kdump mode through MPI capabilities bit during driver initialization. This allows firmware to adjust its behavior accordingly. 2023-03-06scsi: megaraid_sas: Update max supported LD IDs to 240Chandrakanth Patil
The firmware only supports Logical Disk IDs up to 240 and LD ID 255 (0xFF) is reserved for deleted LDs. However, in some cases, firmware was assigning LD ID 254 (0xFE) to deleted LDs and this was causing the driver to mark the wrong disk as deleted. This in turn caused the wrong disk device to be taken offline by the SCSI midlayer. To address this issue, limit the LD ID range from 255 to 240. This ensures the deleted LD ID is properly identified and removed by the driver without accidently deleting any valid LDs. struct MPI2_RAID_SCSI_IO_REQUEST ends with a single SGL, but expects to copy multiple. Add a flexible array member so the compiler can reason about the size of the memcpy(). This will avoid the run-time false positive warning: memcpy: detected field-spanning write (size 128) of single field "&r1_cmd->io_request->SGL" at drivers/scsi/megaraid/megaraid_sas_fusion.c:3326 (size 16) This change results in no binary output differences.
