2025-02-04serial: 8250_pnp: Remove unneeded ->iotype assignmentAndy Shevchenko
If ->iobase is set the default will be UPIO_PORT for ->iotype after the uart_read_and_validate_port_properties() call. Hence no need to assign that explicitly. Otherwise it will be UPIO_MEM. 2024-05-10serial: 8250_pnp: Simplify "line" related codeIlpo Järvinen
8250_pnp sets drvdata to line + 1 if the probe is successful. The users of drvdata are in remove, suspend and resume callbacks, none of which will be called if probe failed. The line acquired from drvdata can never be zero in those functions and the checks for that can be removed. Eliminate also +/-1 step because all users of line subtract 1 from the value. These might have been leftover from legacy PM callbacks that could be called without probe being successful. 2017-11-08tty: serial: Remove redundant license textGreg Kroah-Hartman
Now that the SPDX tag is in all tty files, that identifies the license in a specific and legally-defined manner. So the extra GPL text wording can be removed as it is no longer needed at all. This is done on a quest to remove the 700+ different ways that files in the kernel describe the GPL license text. And there's unneeded stuff like the address (sometimes incorrect) for the FSF which is never needed. No copyright headers or other non-license-description text was removed. 2017-11-08tty: add SPDX identifiers to all remaining files in drivers/tty/Greg Kroah-Hartman
It's good to have SPDX identifiers in all files to make it easier to audit the kernel tree for correct licenses. Update the drivers/tty files files with the correct SPDX license identifier based on the license text in the file itself. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. This work is based on a script and data from Thomas Gleixner, Philippe Ombredanne, and Kate Stewart. 2016-02-06tty: serial: 8250: Remove SERIAL_DEBUG_PNP macroPhillip Raffeck
This patch removes the macro SERIAL_DEBUG_PNP, which is used to enable debugging at compile time. As SERIAL_DEBUG_PNP is an orphan, the corresponding #ifdef is removed. 2015-02-02serial: 8250_pnp: Enable PNP_CONSOLE for console portsPeter Hurley
When the kernel command line parameter, no_console_suspend, is used, the console should continue to output console messages during and after system suspend. For a serial console, the serial core ensures that the device is not shutdown when no_console_suspend is specified. However, the default operation of the pnp bus will disable and suspend the device and no further output occurs. When registering the 8250 port, if the serial device is a console set the PNP_CONSOLE capability, which prevents device power-off if consoles are not suspending. 2013-03-12tty/8250_pnp: serial port detection regression since v3.7Sean Young
The InsydeH2O BIOS (version dated 09/12/2011) has the following in its pnp resouces for its serial ports: $ cat /sys/bus/pnp/devices/00:0b/resources state = active io disabled irq disabled We do not check if the resources are disabled, and create a bogus ttyS* device. Since commit 835d844d1a28e (8250_pnp: do pnp probe before legacy probe) we get a bogus ttyS0, which prevents the legacy probe from detecting it.
