2025-08-06drm/radeon: Pass along the format info from .fb_create() to ↵Imre Deak
drm_helper_mode_fill_fb_struct() Plumb the format info from .fb_create() all the way to drm_helper_mode_fill_fb_struct() to avoid the redundant lookup. For the fbdev case a manual drm_get_format_info() lookup is needed. The patch is based on the driver parts of the patchset at Link: below, which missed converting the radeon driver. Due to the absence of this change in the patchset at Link:, after the Fixed: commit below, radeon_framebuffer_init() -> drm_helper_mode_fill_fb_struct() set drm_framebuffer::format incorrectly to NULL, which lead to the !fb->format WARN() in drm_framebuffer_init() and causing framebuffer creation to fail. drm_helper_mode_fill_fb_struct() Soon all drivers should have the format info already available in the places where they call drm_helper_mode_fill_fb_struct(). Allow it to be passed along into drm_helper_mode_fill_fb_struct() instead of doing yet another redundant lookup. Start by always passing in NULL and still doing the extra lookup. Decouple drm_get_format_info() from struct drm_mode_fb_cmd2 and just pass the pixel format+modifier combo in by hand. 2025-07-15drm/radeon: Do not hold console lock during resumeThomas Zimmermann
The function radeon_resume_kms() acquires the console lock. It is inconsistent, as it depends on the notify_client argument. That lock then covers a number of suspend operations that are unrelated to the console. Remove the calls to console_lock() and console_unlock() from the radeon function. The console lock is only required by DRM's fbdev emulation, which acquires it as necessary. Also fixes a possible circular dependency between the console lock and the client-list mutex, where the mutex is supposed to be taken first. The radeon driver holds the console lock while suspending in-kernel DRM clients. This creates a circular dependency with the client-list mutex, which is supposed to be acquired first. Reported when combining radeon with another DRM driver. Therefore, do not take the console lock in radeon, but let the fbdev DRM client acquire the lock when needed. This is what all other DRM drivers so. 2025-04-23PCI: Add CONFIG_MMU dependencyArnd Bergmann
It turns out that there are no platforms that have PCI but don't have an MMU, so adding a Kconfig dependency on CONFIG_PCI simplifies build testing kernels for those platforms a lot, and avoids a lot of inadvertent build regressions. Add a dependency for CONFIG_PCI and remove all the ones for PCI specific device drivers that are currently marked not having it. There are a few platforms that have an optional MMU, but they usually cannot have PCI at all. The one exception is Coldfire MCF54xx, but this is mainly for historic reasons, and anyone using those chips should really use the MMU these days. On the off chance that command stream passed from userspace via ioctl() call to radeon_vce_cs_parse() is weirdly crafted and first command to execute is to encode (case 0x03000001), the function in question will attempt to call radeon_vce_cs_reloc() with size argument that has not been properly initialized. Specifically, 'size' will point to 'tmp' variable before the latter had a chance to be assigned any value. Play it safe and init 'tmp' with 0, thus ensuring that radeon_vce_cs_reloc() will catch an early error in cases like these. Found by Linux Verification Center (linuxtesting.org) with static analysis tool SVACE. This patch removes useless NULL pointer checks in functions like ci_set_private_data_variables_based_on_pptable() and ci_setup_default_dpm_tables(). The pointers in question are initialized as addresses to existing structures such as rdev->pm.dpm.dyn_state.vddc_dependency_on_sclk by utilizing & operator and therefore are not in danger of being NULL. Fix this by removing extra checks thus cleaning the code a tiny bit. Found by Linux Verification Center (linuxtesting.org) with static analysis tool SVACE. 2024-11-20drm/radeon: Fix spurious unplug event on radeon HDMISteven 'Steve' Kendall
On several HP models (tested on HP 3125 and HP Probook 455 G2), spurious unplug events are emitted upon login on Chrome OS. This is likely due to the way Chrome OS restarts graphics upon login, so it's possible it's an issue on other distributions but not as common, though I haven't reproduced the issue elsewhere. Use logic from an earlier version of the merged change (see link below) which iterates over connectors and finds matching encoders, rather than the other way around. Also fixes an issue with screen mirroring on Chrome OS. I've deployed this patch on Fedora and did not observe any regression on these devices.
