| Do not turn on the vcr_hack based on the btv->field value. This was a change in the bttv vb2 conversion that caused green lines at the bottom of the picture in tvtime. It was originally added to the vb2 conversion based on faulty information that without this there would be glitches in the video. However, later tests suggest that this is a problem in the utilities used to test this since tvtime behaves fine. This patch reverts the bttv driver to the original pre-vb2 behavior w.r.t. vcr_hack. | Destructive overlay support (i.e. where the video frame is DMA-ed straight into a framebuffer) is effectively dead. It was a necessary evil in the early days when computers were not fast enough to copy SDTV video frames around, but today that's no longer a problem. It requires access to the framebuffer memory, which is a bad idea and very hard to do safely. In addition, in drm it is today almost impossible to get hold of the framebuffer address. | None of these BUG_ON()'s is justified. BUG_ON() should only be used when there is really no way to survive. If at all these could be replaced by lockdep_assert_preemption_enabled() to cover all invalid caller context and not just those covered by in_interrupt(). But all functions which are invoked from those places contain already debug mechanisms to catch wrong context, so having these extra checks is not having any advantage. | The kmalloc() function has a 2-factor argument form, kmalloc_array(). This patch replaces cases of: kmalloc(a * b, gfp) with: kmalloc_array(a * b, gfp) as well as handling cases of: kmalloc(a * b * c, gfp) with: kmalloc(array3_size(a, b, c), gfp) as it's slightly less ugly than: kmalloc_array(array_size(a, b), c, gfp) This does, however, attempt to ignore constant size factors like: kmalloc(4 * 1024, gfp) though any constants defined via macros get caught up in the conversion. Any factors with a sizeof() of "unsigned char", "char", and "u8" were dropped, since they're redundant. The tools/ directory was manually excluded, since it has its own implementation of kmalloc(). | Never use sg++, always use sg = sg_next(sg). Scatterlist entries can be combined if the memory is contiguous but sg++ won't know about that. As far as I can tell cx88 and ivtv are really broken because of this, and bttv and cx25821 are OK because vb1 doesn't combine scatterlist entries.
