Looking at the kernel code, I see that kernel does add link-local address automatically in init_loopback(), but that is called from ipv6 notifier block. So, in turn the userspace that brought up the loopback interface may see rtnetlink ACK earlier than addrconf_notify() does it's job (at least, on a slow VM such as netdev). Probably, for ipv4 it's the same, judging by inetdev_event(). The fix is quite simple: set the link-local route straight after bringing the loopback interface. That will make it synchronous. There are related TCP-MD5 <=> TCP and TCP-MD5 <=> TCP-AO tests that can benefit from checking the related counters, not only from validating operations timeouts. It also prepares the code for introduction of mixed select()+poll mode, see the follow-up patches. Rename __test_tcp_ao_counters_cmp() into test_assert_counters_ao() and test_tcp_ao_key_counters_cmp() into test_assert_counters_key() as they are asserts, rather than just compare functions. Provide test_cmp_counters() helper, that's going to be used to compare ao_info and netns counters as a stop condition for polling the sockets. 2024-08-27selftests/net: Add trace events matching to tcp_aoDmitry Safonov
Setup trace points, add a new ftrace instance in order to not interfere with the rest of the system, filtering by net namespace cookies. Raise a new background thread that parses trace_pipe, matches them with the list of expected events. Wiring up trace events to selftests provides another insight if there is anything unexpected happining in the tcp-ao code (i.e. key rotation when it's not expected). Note: in real programs libtraceevent should be used instead of this manual labor of setting ftrace up and parsing. I'm not using it here as I don't want to have an .so library dependency that one would have to bring into VM or DUT (Device Under Test). Please, don't copy it over into any real world programs, that aren't tests. 2024-08-27selftests/tcp_ao: Fix printing format for uint64_tMohammad Nassiri
It's not safe to use '%zu' specifier for printing uint64_t on 32-bit systems. For uint64_t, we should use the 'PRIu64' macro from the inttypes.h library. This ensures that the uint64_t is printed correctly from the selftests regardless of the system architecture. tcp_ao/self-connect.c checked the following SNMP stats before/after connect() to confirm that the test exercises the simultaneous connect() path. * TCPChallengeACK * TCPSYNChallenge But the stats should not be counted for self-connect in the first place, and the assumption is no longer true. Let's remove the check. 2023-12-17selftests/net: Add TCP-AO selfconnect/simultaneous connect testDmitry Safonov
Check that a rare functionality of TCP named self-connect works with TCP-AO. This "under the cover" also checks TCP simultaneous connect (TCP_SYN_RECV socket state), which would be harder to check other ways. In order to verify that it's indeed TCP simultaneous connect, check the counters TCPChallengeACK and TCPSYNChallenge.
