2023-01-12ARM: sa1100: remove unused board filesArnd Bergmann
The Cerf, H3100, Badge4, Hackkit, LART, NanoEngine, PLEB, Shannon and Simpad machines were all marked as unused as there are no known users left. Remove all of these, along with references to them in defconfig files and drivers. Four machines remain now: Assabet, Collie (Zaurus SL5500), iPAQ H3600 and Jornada 720, each of which had one person still using them, with Collie also being supported in Qemu. 2022-08-18ARM: Kconfig: clean up platform selectionArnd Bergmann
The top-level platform selection is mostly meaningless these days after almost everything is sorted below the CONFIG_ARCH_MULTIPLATFORM, with the only exception being the 20+ year old StrongARM based machines. Make this more consistent by removing the entire choice statement and moving the StrongARM specific options into regular platform specific Kconfig files. The three platforms (footbridge, rpc and sa1100) are still mutually exclusive and cannot coexist with other ARMv4/v5 machines, but since there are only three of them and we will not add more, this can be expressed using Kconfig 'depends on' statements. 2022-07-22ARM: sa1100: mark most boards as unusedArnd Bergmann
Most Arm board files are unused and will be removed in early 2023 if no remaining users show up. For the sa1100 platform, the machines that are still in use are: - Russell's Assabet development board - Linus' H3600 iPaq PocketPC - Collie as the only qemu-supported board, to allow testing by others All remaining sa1100 boards are marked to depend on CONFIG_UNUSED_BOARD_FILES to give potential users a last chance to speak up. 2022-07-22ARM: defconfig: remove stale CONFIG_ZBOOT_ROM entriesArnd Bergmann
The default is always 0x0 after commit 39c3e304567a ("ARM: 8984/1: Kconfig: set default ZBOOT_ROM_TEXT/BSS value to 0x0"), so any defconfig file that has these two lines can now drop them to reduce the diff against the 'make savedefconfig' version. 2022-07-22ARM: refresh defconfig filesArnd Bergmann
A lot of Kconfig options have changed over the years, and we tend to not do a blind 'make defconfig' to refresh the files, to ensure we catch options that should not have gone away. I used some a bit of scripting to only rework the bits where an option moved around in any of the defconfig files, without also dropping any of the other lines, to make it clearer which options we no longer have. 2020-02-09ARM: configs: Cleanup old Kconfig optionsKrzysztof Kozlowski
CONFIG_MMC_BLOCK_BOUNCE is gone since commit c3dccb74be28 ("mmc: core: Delete bounce buffer Kconfig option"). CONFIG_LBDAF is gone since commit 72deb455b5ec ("block: remove CONFIG_LBDAF"). CONFIG_IOSCHED_DEADLINE and CONFIG_IOSCHED_CFQ are gone since commit f382fb0bcef4 ("block: remove legacy IO schedulers"). The IOSCHED_DEADLINE was replaced by MQ_IOSCHED_DEADLINE and it will be now enabled by default (along with MQ_IOSCHED_KYBER). The IOSCHED_BFQ seems to replace IOSCHED_CFQ so select it in configs previously choosing the latter. CONFIG_CROSS_COMPILE is gone since commit f1089c92da79 ("kbuild: remove CONFIG_CROSS_COMPILE support"). 2011-01-20kconfig: rename CONFIG_EMBEDDED to CONFIG_EXPERTDavid Rientjes
The meaning of CONFIG_EMBEDDED has long since been obsoleted; the option is used to configure any non-standard kernel with a much larger scope than only small devices. This patch renames the option to CONFIG_EXPERT in init/Kconfig and fixes references to the option throughout the kernel. A new CONFIG_EMBEDDED option is added that automatically selects CONFIG_EXPERT when enabled and can be used in the future to isolate options that should only be considered for embedded systems (RISC architectures, SLOB, etc). Calling the option "EXPERT" more accurately represents its intention: only expert users who understand the impact of the configuration changes they are making should enable it. Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
