Pull drm updates from Dave Airlie: "Outside of drm there are some rust patches from Danilo who maintains that area in here, and some pieces for drm header check tests. The major things in here are a new driver supporting the touchbar displays on M1/M2, the nova-core stub driver which is just the vehicle for adding rust abstractions and start developing a real driver inside of. xe adds support for SVM with a non-driver specific SVM core abstraction that will hopefully be useful for other drivers, along with support for shrinking for TTM devices. 2025-03-10drm/atomic: Filter out redundant DPMS callsVille Syrjälä
Video players (eg. mpv) do periodic XResetScreenSaver() calls to keep the screen on while the video playing. The modesetting ddx plumbs these straight through into the kernel as DPMS setproperty ioctls, without any filtering whatsoever. When implemented via atomic these end up as empty commits on the crtc (which will nonetheless take one full frame), which leads to a dropped frame every time XResetScreenSaver() is called. Let's just filter out redundant DPMS property changes in the kernel to avoid this issue. v2: Explain the resulting commits a bit better (Sima) Document the behaviour in uapi docs (Sima) Cc: stable@vger.kernel.org Testcase: igt/kms_flip/flip-vs-dpms-on-nop Reviewed-by: Simona Vetter <simona.vetter@ffwll.ch> Signed-off-by: Ville Syrjälä <ville.syrjala@linux.intel.com> Link: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/msgid/20250219160239.17502-1-ville.syrjala@linux.intel.com
2025-02-14drm/atomic: Let drivers decide which planes to async flipAndré Almeida
Currently, DRM atomic uAPI allows only primary planes to be flipped asynchronously. However, each driver might be able to perform async flips in other different plane types. To enable drivers to set their own restrictions on which type of plane they can or cannot flip, use the existing atomic_async_check() from struct drm_plane_helper_funcs to enhance this flexibility, thus allowing different plane types to be able to do async flips as well. Create a new parameter for the atomic_async_check(), `bool flip`. This parameter is used to distinguish when this function is being called from a plane update from a full page flip. In order to prevent regressions and such, we keep the current policy: we skip the driver check for the primary plane, because it is always allowed to do async flips on it. 2024-09-25drm: Consistently use struct drm_mode_rect for FB_DAMAGE_CLIPSThomas Zimmermann
FB_DAMAGE_CLIPS is a plane property for damage handling. Its UAPI should only use UAPI types. Hence replace struct drm_rect with struct drm_mode_rect in drm_atomic_plane_set_property(). Both types are identical in practice, so there's no change in behavior. 2024-08-06drm/atomic: allow no-op FB_ID updates for async flipsSimon Ser
User-space is allowed to submit any property in an async flip as long as the value doesn't change. However we missed one case: as things stand, the kernel rejects no-op FB_ID changes on non-primary planes. Fix this by changing the conditional and skipping drm_atomic_check_prop_changes() only for FB_ID on the primary plane (instead of skipping for FB_ID on any plane). 2024-05-28drm/connector: hdmi: Add Broadcast RGB propertyMaxime Ripard
The i915 driver has a property to force the RGB range of an HDMI output. The vc4 driver then implemented the same property with the same semantics. KWin has support for it, and a PR for mutter is also there to support it. Both drivers implementing the same property with the same semantics, plus the userspace having support for it, is proof enough that it's pretty much a de-facto standard now and we can provide helpers for it. 2023-11-24drm/atomic: Add support for mouse hotspotsZack Rusin
Atomic modesetting code lacked support for specifying mouse cursor hotspots. The legacy kms DRM_IOCTL_MODE_CURSOR2 had support for setting the hotspot but the functionality was not implemented in the new atomic paths. Due to the lack of hotspots in the atomic paths userspace compositors completely disable atomic modesetting for drivers that require it (i.e. all paravirtualized drivers). This change adds hotspot properties to the atomic codepaths throughtout the DRM core and will allow enabling atomic modesetting for virtualized drivers in the userspace. 2022-11-24drm/connector: Add TV standard propertyMaxime Ripard
The TV mode property has been around for a while now to select and get the current TV mode output on an analog TV connector. Despite that property name being generic, its content isn't and has been driver-specific which makes it hard to build any generic behaviour on top of it, both in kernel and user-space. Let's create a new enum tv norm property, that can contain any of the analog TV standards currently supported by kernel drivers. Each driver can then pass in a bitmask of the modes it supports, and the property creation function will filter out the modes not supported. There is two TV subconnector related properties registered by drm_mode_create_tv_properties(): subconnector and select subconnector. While the select subconnector property is stored in the kernel by the drm_tv_connector_state structure, the subconnector property isn't stored anywhere. 2022-05-02drm: handle kernel fences in drm_gem_plane_helper_prepare_fb v2Christian König
drm_gem_plane_helper_prepare_fb() was using drm_atomic_set_fence_for_plane() which ignores all implicit fences when an explicit fence is already set. That's rather unfortunate when the fb still has a kernel fence we need to wait for to avoid presenting garbage on the screen. So instead update the fence in the plane state directly. 2022-03-31drm/atomic: Print the state every non-blocking commitMaxime Ripard
The DRM_UT_STATE controls whether we're calling drm_atomic_print_new_state() whenever a new state is committed. However, that call is made in the drm_mode_atomic_ioctl(), whereas we have multiple users of the drm_atomic_commit() function in the kernel (framebuffer emulation, drm_atomic_helper_dirtyfb, etc.). This leads to multiple states being committed but never actually displayed even though we asked to have verbose atomic state debugging. Let's move the call to drm_atomic_print_new_state() to drm_atomic_commit() to make sure we don't miss any. Non-blocking commits were never logged though, and it would create too much churn in the logs to do so, so leave them out for now. 2020-10-21drm: Introduce plane and CRTC scaling filter propertiesPankaj Bharadiya
Introduce per-plane and per-CRTC scaling filter properties to allow userspace to select the driver's default scaling filter or Nearest-neighbor(NN) filter for upscaling operations on CRTC and plane. Drivers can set up this property for a plane by calling drm_plane_create_scaling_filter() and for a CRTC by calling drm_crtc_create_scaling_filter(). NN filter works by filling in the missing color values in the upscaled image with that of the coordinate-mapped nearest source pixel value. NN filter for integer multiple scaling can be particularly useful for for pixel art games that rely on sharp, blocky images to deliver their distinctive look. changes since: v6: * Move property doc to existing "Standard CRTC Properties" and "Plane Composition Properties" doc comments (Simon) changes since v3: * Refactor code, add new function for common code (Ville) changes since v2: * Create per-plane and per-CRTC scaling filter property (Ville) changes since v1: * None changes since RFC: * Add separate properties for plane and CRTC (Ville) Link: https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/18194 Link: https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/18567 Reviewed-by: Ville Syrjälä <ville.syrjala@linux.intel.com> Reviewed-by: Uma Shankar <uma.shankar@intel.com> Acked-by: Simon Ser <contact@emersion.fr> Acked-by: Daniel Vetter <daniel@ffwll.ch> Signed-off-by: Pankaj Bharadiya <pankaj.laxminarayan.bharadiya@intel.com> Signed-off-by: Jani Nikula <jani.nikula@intel.com> Link: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/msgid/20201020161427.6941-2-pankaj.laxminarayan.bharadiya@intel.com

This patch adds a DRM ENUM property to the selected connectors. This property is used for mentioning the protected content's type from userspace to kernel HDCP authentication. But Type 1 content can be rendered only on HDCP2.2 protected paths.
