2024-12-05drm: remove driver date from struct drm_driver and all driversJani Nikula
We stopped using the driver initialized date in commit 7fb8af6798e8 ("drm: deprecate driver date") and (eventually) started returning "0" for drm_version ioctl instead. 2024-12-01Get rid of 'remove_new' relic from platform driver structLinus Torvalds
The continual trickle of small conversion patches is grating on me, and is really not helping. Just get rid of the 'remove_new' member function, which is just an alias for the plain 'remove', and had a comment to that effect: /* * .remove_new() is a relic from a prototype conversion of .remove(). * New drivers are supposed to implement .remove(). Once all drivers are * converted to not use .remove_new any more, it will be dropped. */ This was just a tree-wide 'sed' script that replaced '.remove_new' with '.remove', with some care taken to turn a subsequent tab into two tabs to make things line up. I did do some minimal manual whitespace adjustment for places that used spaces to line things up. Then I just removed the old (sic) .remove_new member function, and this is the end result. Call drm_client_setup() to run the kernel's default client setup for DRM. Set fbdev_probe in struct drm_driver, so that the client setup can start the common fbdev client. The sti driver specifies a preferred color mode of 32. 2023-09-21drm: Call drm_atomic_helper_shutdown() at shutdown time for misc driversDouglas Anderson
Based on grepping through the source code these drivers appear to be missing a call to drm_atomic_helper_shutdown() at system shutdown time. Among other things, this means that if a panel is in use that it won't be cleanly powered off at system shutdown time. The fact that we should call drm_atomic_helper_shutdown() in the case of OS shutdown/restart comes straight out of the kernel doc "driver instance overview" in drm_drv.c. All of the drivers in this patch were fairly straightforward to fix since they already had a call to drm_atomic_helper_shutdown() at remove/unbind time but were just lacking one at system shutdown. The only hitch is that some of these drivers use the component model to register/unregister their DRM devices. The shutdown callback is part of the original device. The typical solution here, based on how other DRM drivers do this, is to keep track of whether the device is bound based on drvdata. In most cases the drvdata is the drm_device, so we can just make sure it is NULL when the device is not bound. In some drivers, this required minor code changes. To make things simpler, drm_atomic_helper_shutdown() has been modified to consider a NULL drm_device as a noop in the patch ("drm/atomic-helper: drm_atomic_helper_shutdown(NULL) should be a noop"). 2023-07-21drm: Explicitly include correct DT includesRob Herring
The DT of_device.h and of_platform.h date back to the separate of_platform_bus_type before it as merged into the regular platform bus. As part of that merge prepping Arm DT support 13 years ago, they "temporarily" include each other. They also include platform_device.h and of.h. As a result, there's a pretty much random mix of those include files used throughout the tree. In order to detangle these headers and replace the implicit includes with struct declarations, users need to explicitly include the correct includes. 2023-06-08drm/sti: Convert to platform remove callback returning voidUwe Kleine-König
The .remove() callback for a platform driver returns an int which makes many driver authors wrongly assume it's possible to do error handling by returning an error code. However the value returned is (mostly) ignored and this typically results in resource leaks. To improve here there is a quest to make the remove callback return void. In the first step of this quest all drivers are converted to .remove_new() which already returns void. Trivially convert the sti drm drivers from always returning zero in the remove callback to the void returning variant. struct drm_display_mode embeds a list head, so overwriting the full struct with another one will corrupt the list (if the destination mode is on a list). Use drm_mode_copy() instead which explicitly preserves the list head of the destination mode. Even if we know the destination mode is not on any list using drm_mode_copy() seems decent as it sets a good example. Bad examples of not using it might eventually get copied into code where preserving the list head actually matters. Obviously one case not covered here is when the mode itself is embedded in a larger structure and the whole structure is copied. Rename "FB CMA" helpers to "FB DMA" helpers - considering the hierarchy of APIs (mm/cma -> dma -> fb dma) calling them "FB DMA" seems to be more applicable. Besides that, commit e57924d4ae80 ("drm/doc: Task to rename CMA helpers") requests to rename the CMA helpers and implies that people seem to be confused about the naming. 2022-07-05drm: Remove linux/i2c.h from drm_crtc.hVille Syrjälä
drm_crtc.h has no need for linux/i2c.h, so don't include it. Avoids useless rebuilds of the entire universe when touching linux/i2c.h. Quite a few placs do currently depend on linux/i2c.h without actually including it directly.
