Avoid dereferencing struct drm_gem_object.import_attach for the
imported dma-buf. The dma_buf field in the GEM object instance refers
to the same buffer. Prepares to make import_attach optional.

Instead of testing import_attach for imported GEM buffers, invoke
drm_gem_is_imported() to do the test. The helper tests the dma_buf
itself while import_attach is just an artifact of the import. Prepares
to make import_attach optional.

The following commit:
0b0d81e3b733 ("objtool, drm/vmwgfx: Fix "duplicate frame pointer save" warning")
... marked vmw_send_msg() STACK_FRAME_NON_STANDARD because it uses RBP
in a non-standard way which violates frame pointer convention.
That issue only affects the frame pointer unwinder. Remove the
annotation for ORC.

Currently we use a combination of TTM and GEM reference counting which is
cumbersome. TTM references are used for kernel internal BOs and operations
like validation. Simply switching the ttm_bo_(get|put) calls to their
GEM equivalents is insufficient as not all BOs are GEM BOs so we must set
the GEM vtable for all BOs even if they are not exposed to userspace.

Dumb buffers were not being freed because the GEM reference that was
acquired in gb_surface_define was not dropped like it is in the 2D case.
Dropping this ref uncovered a few additional issues with freeing the
resources associated with dirty tracking in vmw_bo_free/release.
Additionally the TTM object associated with the surface were also leaking
which meant that when the ttm_object_file was closed at process exit the
destructor unreferenced an already destroyed surface.
The solution is to remove the destructor from the vmw_user_surface
associated with the dumb_buffer and immediately unreferencing the TTM
object which his removes it from the ttm_object_file.
This also allows the early return in vmw_user_surface_base_release for the
dumb buffer case to be removed as it should no longer occur.
The chain of references now has the GEM handle(s) owning the dumb buffer.
The GEM handles have a singular GEM reference to the vmw_bo which is
dropped when all handles are closed. When the GEM reference count hits
zero the vmw_bo is freed which then unreferences the surface via
vmw_resource_release in vmw_bo_release.

The xa_store() may fail due to memory allocation failure because there
is no guarantee that the index is already used. This fix introduces new
paths to handle the error.
This patch also aligns the order of function calls by calling
vmw_bo_add_detached_resource() before ttm_prime_object_init() in order
to allow consistent error handling.

Because sync_files are passive waiters they do not participate in
the processing of fences like the traditional vmw_fence_wait IOCTL.
If userspace exclusively uses sync_files for synchronization then
nothing in the kernel actually processes fence updates as interrupts
for fences are masked and ignored if the kernel does not indicate to the
SVGA device that there are active waiters.
This oversight results in a bug where the entire GUI can freeze waiting
on a sync_file that will never be signalled as we've masked the interrupts
to signal its completion. This bug is incredibly racy as any process which
interacts with the fencing code via the 3D stack can process the stuck
fences on behalf of the stuck process causing it to run again. Even a
simple app like eglinfo is enough to resume the stuck process. Usually
this bug is seen at a login screen like GDM because there are no other
3D apps running.
By adding a seqno waiter we re-enable interrupt based processing of the
dma_fences associated with the sync_file which is signalled as part of a
dma_fence_callback.
This has likely been broken since it was initially added to the kernel in
2017 but has gone unnoticed until mutter recently started using sync_files
heavily over the course of 2024 as part of their explicit sync support.

Bump the minor version of vmwgfx in order to detect releases where the
cursor issues have been fixed.
Cursors created with dumb buffer were broken on vmwgfx. Userspace (e.g.
kwin) has workarounds for those issues and often disables hardware
cursors on vmwgfx. This allows enabling hardware cursors on vmwgfx
again.

Refactor cursor handling to make the code maintainable again. Over the
last 12 years the svga device improved support for virtualized cursors
and at the same time the drm interfaces evolved quite a bit from
pre-atomic to current atomic ones. vmwgfx only added new code over
the years, instead of adjusting/refactoring the paths.
Export the cursor plane handling to its own file. Remove special
handling of the legacy cursor support to make it fit within the global
cursor plane mechanism.
Finally redo dirty tracking because memcmp never worked correctly
resulting in the cursor not being properly updated in the guest.

hrtimer_setup() takes the callback function pointer as argument and
initializes the timer completely.
Replace hrtimer_init() and the open coded initialization of
hrtimer::function with the new setup mechanism.

Adds a new BO param that keeps the reservation locked after creation.
This removes the need to re-reserve the BO after creation which is a
waste of cycles.
This also fixes a bug in vmw_prime_import_sg_table where the imported
reservation is unlocked twice.

We stopped using the driver initialized date in commit 7fb8af6798e8
("drm: deprecate driver date") and (eventually) started returning "0"
for drm_version ioctl instead.
Finish the job, and remove the unused date member from struct
drm_driver, its initialization from drivers, along with the common
DRIVER_DATE macros.

Remove the connector-status initialization from several of vmwgfx's
functions. It is not required by the driver or DRM helpers.
DRM initializes the connector to unknown status in __drm_connector_init()
and reads the physical status when DRM clients or the user needs the
information, or if it detects/polls a change to the status.

"This contains changes the changes for files for this cycle:
- Introduce a new reference counting mechanism for files.
As atomic_inc_not_zero() is implemented with a try_cmpxchg() loop
it has O(N^2) behaviour under contention with N concurrent
operations and it is in a hot path in __fget_files_rcu().
The rcuref infrastructures remedies this problem by using an
unconditional increment relying on safe- and dead zones to make
this work and requiring rcu protection for the data structure in
question. This not just scales better it also introduces overflow
protection.
However, in contrast to generic rcuref, files require a memory
barrier and thus cannot rely on *_relaxed() atomic operations and
also require to be built on atomic_long_t as having massive amounts
of reference isn't unheard of even if it is just an attack.
This adds a file specific variant instead of making this a generic
library.
This has been tested by various people and it gives consistent
improvement up to 3-5% on workloads with loads of threads.
- Add a fastpath for find_next_zero_bit(). Skip 2-levels searching
via find_next_zero_bit() when there is a free slot in the word that
contains the next fd. This improves pts/blogbench-1.1.0 read by 8%
and write by 4% on Intel ICX 160.
- Conditionally clear full_fds_bits since it's very likely that a bit
in full_fds_bits has been cleared during __clear_open_fds(). This
improves pts/blogbench-1.1.0 read up to 13%, and write up to 5% on
Intel ICX 160.
- Get rid of all lookup_*_fdget_rcu() variants. They were used to
lookup files without taking a reference count. That became invalid
once files were switched to SLAB_TYPESAFE_BY_RCU and now we're
always taking a reference count. Switch to an already existing
helper and remove the legacy variants.
- Remove pointless includes of <linux/fdtable.h>.
- Avoid cmpxchg() in close_files() as nobody else has a reference to
the files_struct at that point.
- Move close_range() into fs/file.c and fold __close_range() into it.
- Cleanup calling conventions of alloc_fdtable() and expand_files().
- Merge __{set,clear}_close_on_exec() into one.
- Make __set_open_fd() set cloexec as well instead of doing it in two
separate steps"

The 'vmw_user_object_buffer' function may return NULL with incorrect

Port files to rely on file_ref reference to improve scaling and gain
overflow protection.
- We continue to WARN during get_file() in case a file that is already
marked dead is revived as get_file() is only valid if the caller
already holds a reference to the file. This hasn't changed just the
check changes.
- The semantics for epoll and ttm's dmabuf usage have changed. Both
epoll and ttm synchronize with __fput() to prevent the underlying file
from beeing freed.
(1) epoll
Explaining epoll is straightforward using a simple diagram.
Essentially, the mutex of the epoll instance needs to be taken in both
__fput() and around epi_fget() preventing the file from being freed
while it is polled or preventing the file from being resurrected.

The logic of the mechanism is the same as for epoll: sync with
__fput() preventing the file from being freed. Here the
synchronization happens through the ttm instance's prime->mutex.
Basically, the lifetime of the dma_buf and the file are tighly
coupled.
Both (1) and (2) used to call atomic_inc_not_zero() to check whether
the file has already been marked dead and then refuse to revive it.
This is only safe because both (1) and (2) sync with __fput() and thus
prevent kmem_cache_free() on the file being called and thus prevent
the file from being immediately recycled due to SLAB_TYPESAFE_BY_RCU.
Both (1) and (2) have been ported from atomic_inc_not_zero() to
file_ref_get(). That means a file that is already in the process of
being marked as FILE_REF_DEAD:

This is fine and inherent to the file_ref_get()/file_ref_put()
semantics. For both (1) and (2) this is safe because __fput() is
prevented from making progress if file_ref_get() fails due to the
aforementioned synchronization mechanisms.
Two cases need to be considered that affect both (1) epoll and (2) ttm
dmabuf:
(i) fput()'s file_ref_put() and marks the file as FILE_REF_NOREF but
before that fput() can mark the file as FILE_REF_DEAD someone
manages to sneak in a file_ref_get() and brings the refcount back
from FILE_REF_NOREF to FILE_REF_ONEREF. In that case the original
fput() doesn't call __fput(). For epoll the poll will finish and
for ttm dmabuf the file can be used again. For ttm dambuf this is
actually an advantage because it avoids immediately allocating
a new dmabuf object.

(ii) fput()'s file_ref_put() marks the file FILE_REF_NOREF and
also suceeds in actually marking it FILE_REF_DEAD and then calls
into __fput() to free the file.
When either (1) or (2) call file_ref_get() they fail as
atomic_long_add_negative() will return true.
At the same time, both (1) and (2) all file_ref_get() under
mutexes that __fput() must also acquire preventing
kmem_cache_free() from freeing the file.
So while this might be treated as a change in semantics for (1) and
(2) it really isn't. It if should end up causing issues this can be
fixed by adding a helper that does something like:

- Jann correctly pointed out that kmem_cache_zalloc() cannot be used
anymore once files have been ported to file_ref_t.
The kmem_cache_zalloc() call will memset() the whole struct file to
zero when it is reallocated. This will also set file->f_ref to zero
which mens that a concurrent file_ref_get() can return true:

causing a concurrent __get_file_rcu() call to acquire a reference to
the file that is about to be reallocated and immediately freeing it
on realizing that it has been recycled. This causes a UAF for the
task that reallocated/recycled the file.
This is prevented by switching from kmem_cache_zalloc() to
kmem_cache_alloc() and initializing the fields manually. With
file->f_ref initialized last.
Note that a memset() also isn't guaranteed to atomically update an
unsigned long so it's theoretically possible to see torn and
therefore bogus counter values.

Currently vmwgfx uses the dev_private opaque pointer in drm_device to store
driver data in vmw_private struct. Using dev_private is deprecated, and the
recommendation is to embed struct drm_device in the larger per-device
structure.
The vmwgfx driver already embeds struct drm_device in its struct
vmw_private, so switch to using that exclusively and stop using
dev_private.

Since kvfree() already checks if its argument is NULL, an additional
check before calling kvfree() is unnecessary and can be removed.

Currently if condition (!bo and !vmw_kms_srf_ok()) was met
we go to err_out with ret == 0.
err_out dereferences vfb if ret == 0, but in our case vfb is still NULL.
Fix this by assigning sensible error to ret.
Found by Linux Verification Center (linuxtesting.org) with SVACE

Do not validate format equality for the non 3d cases to allow xrgb to
argb copies and make sure the dx binding flags are only used
on dx compatible surfaces.
Fixes basic 2d kms setup on configurations without 3d. There's little
practical benefit to it because kms framebuffer coherence is disabled
on configurations without 3d but with those changes the code actually
makes sense.

"This contains the usual pile of misc updates:
Features:
- Add F_CREATED_QUERY fcntl() that allows userspace to query whether
a file was actually created. Often userspace wants to know whether
an O_CREATE request did actually create a file without using
O_EXCL. The current logic is that to first attempts to open the
file without O_CREAT | O_EXCL and if ENOENT is returned userspace
tries again with both flags. If that succeeds all is well. If it
now reports EEXIST it retries.
That works fairly well but some corner cases make this more
involved. If this operates on a dangling symlink the first openat()
without O_CREAT | O_EXCL will return ENOENT but the second openat()
with O_CREAT | O_EXCL will fail with EEXIST.
The reason is that openat() without O_CREAT | O_EXCL follows the
symlink while O_CREAT | O_EXCL doesn't for security reasons. So
it's not something we can really change unless we add an explicit
opt-in via O_FOLLOW which seems really ugly.
All available workarounds are really nasty (fanotify, bpf lsm etc)
so add a simple fcntl().
- Try an opportunistic lookup for O_CREAT. Today, when opening a file
we'll typically do a fast lookup, but if O_CREAT is set, the kernel
always takes the exclusive inode lock. This was likely done with
the expectation that O_CREAT means that we always expect to do the
create, but that's often not the case. Many programs set O_CREAT
even in scenarios where the file already exists (see related
F_CREATED_QUERY patch motivation above).
The series contained in the pr rearranges the pathwalk-for-open
code to also attempt a fast_lookup in certain O_CREAT cases. If a
positive dentry is found, the inode_lock can be avoided altogether
and it can stay in rcuwalk mode for the last step_into.
- Expose the 64 bit mount id via name_to_handle_at()
Now that we provide a unique 64-bit mount ID interface in statx(2),
we can now provide a race-free way for name_to_handle_at(2) to
provide a file handle and corresponding mount without needing to
worry about racing with /proc/mountinfo parsing or having to open a
file just to do statx(2).
While this is not necessary if you are using AT_EMPTY_PATH and
don't care about an extra statx(2) call, users that pass full paths
into name_to_handle_at(2) need to know which mount the file handle
comes from (to make sure they don't try to open_by_handle_at a file
handle from a different filesystem) and switching to AT_EMPTY_PATH
would require allocating a file for every name_to_handle_at(2) call
- Add a per dentry expire timeout to autofs
There are two fairly well known automounter map formats, the autofs
format and the amd format (more or less System V and Berkley).
Some time ago Linux autofs added an amd map format parser that
implemented a fair amount of the amd functionality. This was done
within the autofs infrastructure and some functionality wasn't
implemented because it either didn't make sense or required extra
kernel changes. The idea was to restrict changes to be within the
existing autofs functionality as much as possible and leave changes
with a wider scope to be considered later.
One of these changes is implementing the amd options:
1) "unmount", expire this mount according to a timeout (same as
the current autofs default).
2) "nounmount", don't expire this mount (same as setting the
autofs timeout to 0 except only for this specific mount) .
3) "utimeout=<seconds>", expire this mount using the specified
timeout (again same as setting the autofs timeout but only for
this mount)
To implement these options per-dentry expire timeouts need to be
implemented for autofs indirect mounts. This is because all map
keys (mounts) for autofs indirect mounts use an expire timeout
stored in the autofs mount super block info. structure and all
indirect mounts use the same expire timeout.

Coherent surfaces make only sense if the host renders to them using
accelerated apis. Without 3d the entire content of dumb buffers stays
in the guest making all of the extra work they're doing to synchronize
between guest and host useless.
Configurations without 3d also tend to run with very low graphics
memory limits. The pinned console fb, mob cursors and graphical login
manager tend to run out of 16MB graphics memory that those guests use.
Fix it by making sure the coherent dumb buffers are only used on
configs with 3d enabled.

Make sure that for external buffers mapping goes through the dma_buf
interface instead of trying to access pages directly.
External buffers might not provide direct access to readable/writable
pages so to make sure the bo's created from external dma_bufs can be
read dma_buf interface has to be used.
Fixes crashes in IGT's kms_prime with vgem. Regular desktop usage won't
trigger this due to the fact that virtual machines will not have
multiple GPUs but it enables better test coverage in IGT.

The kms paths keep a persistent map active to read and compare the cursor
buffer. These maps can race with each other in simple scenario where:
a) buffer "a" mapped for update
b) buffer "a" mapped for compare
c) do the compare
d) unmap "a" for compare
e) update the cursor
f) unmap "a" for update
At step "e" the buffer has been unmapped and the read contents is bogus.
Prevent unmapping of active read buffers by simply keeping a count of
how many paths have currently active maps and unmap only when the count
reaches 0.

When multi-monitor is cycled the X,Y position of the Screen Target will
likely change but the resolution will not. We need to trigger a modeset
when this occurs in order to recreate the Screen Target with the correct
X,Y position.
Fixes a bug where multiple displays are shown in a single scrollable
host window rather than in 2+ windows on separate host displays.

Make vmwgfx go through the dma-buf interface to map/unmap imported
buffers. The driver used to try to directly manipulate external
buffers, assuming that everything that was coming to it had to live
in cpu accessible memory. While technically true because what's in the
vms is controlled by us, it's semantically completely broken.
Fix importing of external buffers by forwarding all memory access
requests to the importer.
Tested by the vmw_prime basic_vgem test.
