In this case only use was to get an irq so easily converted.
Also include linux/mod_devicetable.h for struct of_device_id definition.
Using the generic firmware handling, this driver may be used with other
firmware types. This also removes an example that might get copied into
other drivers leaving them unable to be used with alternative firmware
types.

Convert enum->pointer for data in the ID table, so that
device_get_match_data() can do match against OF/ACPI/I2C tables, once i2c
bus type match support added to it.
Replace enum->struct *mma_chip_info for data in the ID table and simplify
mma8452_probe() by replacing device_get_match_data() with
i2c_get_match_data().

The DT of_device.h and of_platform.h date back to the separate
of_platform_bus_type before it as merged into the regular platform bus.
As part of that merge prepping Arm DT support 13 years ago, they
"temporarily" include each other. They also include platform_device.h
and of.h. As a result, there's a pretty much random mix of those include
files used throughout the tree. In order to detangle these headers and
replace the implicit includes with struct declarations, users need to
explicitly include the correct includes.

After commit b8a1a4cd5a98 ("i2c: Provide a temporary .probe_new()
call-back type"), all drivers being converted to .probe_new() and then
03c835f498b5 ("i2c: Switch .probe() to not take an id parameter") convert
back to (the new) .probe() to be able to eventually drop .probe_new() from
struct i2c_driver.

The value returned by an i2c driver's remove function is mostly ignored.
(Only an error message is printed if the value is non-zero that the
error is ignored.)
So change the prototype of the remove function to return no value. This
way driver authors are not tempted to assume that passing an error to
the upper layer is a good idea. All drivers are adapted accordingly.
There is no intended change of behaviour, all callbacks were prepared to
return 0 before.

On fxls8471, after set the reset bit, the device will reset immediately,
will not give ACK. So ignore the return value of this reset operation,
let the following code logic to check whether the reset operation works.

The original logic to get mma8452_data is wrong, the *dev point to
the device belong to iio_dev. we can't use this dev to find the
correct i2c_client. The original logic happen to work because it
finally use dev->driver_data to get iio_dev. Here use the API
to_i2c_client() is wrong and make reader confuse. To correct the
logic, it should be like this
struct mma8452_data *data = iio_priv(dev_get_drvdata(dev));
But after commit 8b7651f25962 ("iio: iio_device_alloc(): Remove
unnecessary self drvdata"), the upper logic also can't work.
When try to show the avialable scale in userspace, will meet kernel
dump, kernel handle NULL pointer dereference.
So use dev_to_iio_dev() to correct the logic.
Dual fixes tags as the second reflects when the bug was exposed, whilst
the first reflects when the original bug was introduced.

The mma8452_driver declares both of_match_table and i2c_driver.id_table
match-tables, but its probe() function only checked for of matches.
Add support for i2c_device_id matches. This fixes the driver not loading
on some x86 tablets (e.g. the Nextbook Ares 8) where the i2c_client is
instantiated by platform code using an i2c_device_id.
Drop of_match_ptr() protection to avoid unused warning.

The mma8452 driver directly assigns a trigger to the struct iio_dev. The
IIO core when done using this trigger will call `iio_trigger_put()` to drop
the reference count by 1.
Without the matching `iio_trigger_get()` in the driver the reference count
can reach 0 too early, the trigger gets freed while still in use and a
use-after-free occurs.
Fix this by getting a reference to the trigger before assigning it to the
IIO device.

The IRQ handler's return type is irqreturn_t. The mma8452 uses a variable
to store the return value, but the variable is of type int. Change this to
irqreturn_t. This makes it easier to verify that the code is correct.

Remove() callback calls pm_runtime_put_noidle() but there it is not
balancing a get. No actual affect because the runtime pm core prevents
the reference count going negative.
Whilst here use pm_runtime_resume_and_get() rather than open coded version.
Again, coccinelle script missed this one due to more complex code
structure.

Continuing from Alexandru Ardelean's introduction of the split between
driver modifiable fields and those that should only be set by the core.
This could have been done in two steps to make the actual move after
introducing iio_device_id() but there seemed limited point to that
given how mechanical the majority of the patch is.

The only usage of mma8452_event_attribute_group is to assign its address
to the event_attrs field in the iio_info struct, which is a const
pointer. Make it const to allow the compiler to put it in read-only
memory. This was the only non-const static struct in drivers/iio.

dev_err_probe(). Less code and also it prints the error value.

One of a class of bugs pointed out by Lars in a recent review.
iio_push_to_buffers_with_timestamp assumes the buffer used is aligned
to the size of the timestamp (8 bytes). This is not guaranteed in
this driver which uses a 16 byte u8 array on the stack. As Lars also noted
this anti pattern can involve a leak of data to userspace and that
indeed can happen here. We close both issues by moving to
a suitable structure in the iio_priv() data with alignment
ensured by use of an explicit c structure. This data is allocated
with kzalloc so no data can leak appart from previous readings.
The additional forcing of the 8 byte alignment of the timestamp
is not strictly necessary but makes the code less fragile by
making this explicit.

The function iio_device_register() was called in mma8452_probe().
But the function iio_device_unregister() was not called after
a call of the function mma8452_set_freefall_mode() failed.
Thus add the missed function call for one error case.

These were found by doing some shell magic:

The output is bearable [after the semantic patch is applied].
There is a mix of trigger assignments with some iio device parent
assignments that are removed via this patch.
JC: A few more added via inspection of all parent =
statements in drivers/iio. Some of these may just have crossed with this
series, others were less obvious to scripting due to some cross
file / module boundary calls.

The accelerometer's power supply could be controllable on some
platforms, such as i.MX6Q-SABRESD board, the mma8451's power supplies
are controlled by a GPIO fixed regulator, need to make sure the
regulators are enabled before any communication with mma8451, this
patch adds vdd/vddio regulator operation support.

Interrupts are ignored if no event bit is set in the status status
register and this breaks the buffer interface. No data is shown when
running "iio_generic_buffer -n mma8451 -a" and interrupt counts go
crazy.
Fix by not returning IRQ_NONE if DRDY is set.

'mma8452_read_thresh' and 'mma8452_write_thresh' functions
does more than just read/write threshold values.
They also handle IIO_EV_INFO_HIGH_PASS_FILTER_3DB and
IIO_EV_INFO_PERIOD therefore renaming to generic names.
Improves code readability, no impact on functionality.

This driver supports multiple devices like mma8653,
mma8652, mma8452, mma8453 and fxls8471. Almost all
these devices have more than one event.
Current driver design hardcodes the event specific
information, so only one event can be supported by this
driver at any given time.
Also current design doesn't have the flexibility to
add more events.
This patch improves by detaching the event related
information from chip_info struct,and based on channel
type and event direction the corresponding event
configuration registers are picked dynamically.
Hence both transient and freefall events can be
handled in read/write callbacks.
Changes are thoroughly tested on fxls8471 device on imx6UL
Eval board using iio_event_monitor user space program.
After this fix both Freefall and Transient events are
handled by the driver without any conflicts.

Use the new iio_trigger_validate_own_device() to verify that the trigger
can only be attached to the matching IIO device rather than using a custom
variant.
While the implementation of iio_trigger_validate_own_device() and the
custom variant and are not identical their behaviour is.
