2023-05-21iio: Switch i2c drivers back to use .probe()Uwe Kleine-König
After commit b8a1a4cd5a98 ("i2c: Provide a temporary .probe_new() call-back type"), all drivers being converted to .probe_new() and then 03c835f498b5 ("i2c: Switch .probe() to not take an id parameter") convert back to (the new) .probe() to be able to eventually drop .probe_new() from struct i2c_driver. .probe_new() doesn't get the i2c_device_id * parameter, so determine that explicitly in the probe function. 2022-08-16i2c: Make remove callback return voidUwe Kleine-König
The value returned by an i2c driver's remove function is mostly ignored. (Only an error message is printed if the value is non-zero that the error is ignored.) So change the prototype of the remove function to return no value. This way driver authors are not tempted to assume that passing an error to the upper layer is a good idea. All drivers are adapted accordingly. There is no intended change of behaviour, all callbacks were prepared to return 0 before. 2022-07-19iio: light: isl29028: Fix the warning in isl29028_remove()Zheyu Ma
The driver use the non-managed form of the register function in isl29028_remove(). To keep the release order as mirroring the ordering in probe, the driver should use non-managed form in probe, too. The following log reveals it: [ 32.374955] isl29028 0-0010: remove [ 32.376861] general protection fault, probably for non-canonical address 0xdffffc0000000006: 0000 [#1] PREEMPT SMP KASAN PTI [ 32.377676] KASAN: null-ptr-deref in range [0x0000000000000030-0x0000000000000037] [ 32.379432] RIP: 0010:kernfs_find_and_get_ns+0x28/0xe0 [ 32.385461] Call Trace: [ 32.385807] sysfs_unmerge_group+0x59/0x110 [ 32.386110] dpm_sysfs_remove+0x58/0xc0 [ 32.386391] device_del+0x296/0xe50 [ 32.386959] cdev_device_del+0x1d/0xd0 [ 32.387231] devm_iio_device_unreg+0x27/0xb0 [ 32.387542] devres_release_group+0x319/0x3d0 [ 32.388162] i2c_device_remove+0x93/0x1f0 Fixes: 2db5054ac28d ("staging: iio: isl29028: add runtime power management support") Signed-off-by: Zheyu Ma <zheyuma97@gmail.com> Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20220717004241.2281028-1-zheyuma97@gmail.com Cc: <Stable@vger.kernel.org> Signed-off-by: Jonathan Cameron <Jonathan.Cameron@huawei.com>

2022-06-11iio:light:isl29028: Remove duplicated error reporting in .remove()Uwe Kleine-König
Returning an error value in an i2c remove callback results in an error message being emitted by the i2c core, but otherwise it doesn't make a difference. The device goes away anyhow and the devm cleanups are called. As isl29028_clear_configure_ret() already emits an error message on failure and the additional error message by the i2c core doesn't add any useful information, change the return value to zero to suppress this message. This patch is a preparation for making i2c remove callbacks return void. 2021-05-17iio: light: isl29028: Balance runtime pm + use pm_runtime_resume_and_get()Jonathan Cameron
In remove this driver called pm_runtime_put_noidle() but there is no matching get operation. This does not cause any problems because the reference counter will not change if already zero, but it does make the code harder to reason about so should be dropped. Whilst we are here, use pm_runtime_resume_and_get() to replace open coded version. 2020-06-14iio: remove explicit IIO device parent assignmentAlexandru Ardelean
This patch applies the semantic patch: @@ expression I, P, SP; @@ I = devm_iio_device_alloc(P, SP); ... - I->dev.parent = P; It updates 302 files and does 307 deletions. This semantic patch also removes some comments like '/* Establish that the iio_dev is a child of the i2c device */' But this is is only done in case where the block is left empty. The patch does not seem to cover all cases. It looks like in some cases a different variable is used in some cases to assign the parent, but it points to the same reference. In other cases, the block covered by ... may be just too big to be covered by the semantic patch. However, this looks pretty good as well, as it does cover a big bulk of the drivers that should remove the parent assignment. 2017-04-30iio: isl29028: add isl29030 supportSebastian Reichel
isl29030 is basically the same chip. The only difference is the chip's first pin. For isl29028 its named ADDR0 and can be used to change the chip's i2c address. For isl29030 on the other hand that pin is named Ials and is an analog current output proportional to ALS/IR. This change is irrelevant for the Linux driver. This has been tested on Motorola Droid 4.
