2023-04-15media: common: saa7146: fix compliance problems with field handlingHans Verkuil
The initial field value of the format is ANY, which isn't allowed. Change to INTERLACED. VIDIOC_TRY_FMT will overwrite vv->last_field, which is an unwanted side-effect, so drop this. The VBI output device didn't have VFL_DIR_TX set, so this didn't work anymore since the V4L2 core thought that it was a capture device instead. Fix this. 2023-03-20media: saa7146: drop overlay supportHans Verkuil
Destructive overlay support (i.e. where the video frame is DMA-ed straight into a framebuffer) is effectively dead. It was a necessary evil in the early days when computers were not fast enough to copy SDTV video frames around, but today that's no longer a problem. It requires access to the framebuffer memory, which is a bad idea and very hard to do safely. In addition, in drm it is today almost impossible to get hold of the framebuffer address. 2021-12-14media: saa7146: hexium_gemini: Fix a NULL pointer dereference in hexium_attach()Zhou Qingyang
In hexium_attach(dev, info), saa7146_vv_init() is called to allocate a new memory for dev->vv_data. saa7146_vv_release() will be called on failure of saa7146_register_device(). There is a dereference of dev->vv_data in saa7146_vv_release(), which could lead to a NULL pointer dereference on failure of saa7146_vv_init(). Fix this bug by adding a check of saa7146_vv_init(). This bug was found by a static analyzer. The analysis employs differential checking to identify inconsistent security operations (e.g., checks or kfrees) between two code paths and confirms that the inconsistent operations are not recovered in the current function or the callers, so they constitute bugs. Note that, as a bug found by static analysis, it can be a false positive or hard to trigger. Multiple researchers have cross-reviewed the bug. Builds with CONFIG_VIDEO_HEXIUM_GEMINI=m show no new warnings, and our static analyzer no longer warns about this code. 2020-12-03media: saa7146: switch from 'pci_' to 'dma_' APIChristophe JAILLET
The wrappers in include/linux/pci-dma-compat.h should go away. The patch has been generated with the coccinelle script below and has been hand modified to replace GFP_ with a correct flag. It has been compile tested. When memory is allocated in 'saa7146_pgtable_alloc()' GFP_KERNEL can be used because the callers are either .buf_prepare functions or function that already use GFP_KERNEL (hidden in a 'vmalloc_32()' call). When memory is allocated in 'saa7146_init_one()' GFP_KERNEL can be used because it is probe function and no lock is taken in the between. When memory is allocated in 'saa7146_vv_init()' GFP_KERNEL can be used because this function already uses GFP_KERNEL and no lock is taken in the between. 2020-11-16media: Bulk remove BUG_ON(in_interrupt())Thomas Gleixner
None of these BUG_ON()'s is justified. BUG_ON() should only be used when there is really no way to survive. If at all these could be replaced by lockdep_assert_preemption_enabled() to cover all invalid caller context and not just those covered by in_interrupt(). But all functions which are invoked from those places contain already debug mechanisms to catch wrong context, so having these extra checks is not having any advantage. 2019-06-24media: media/pci: set device_caps in struct video_deviceHans Verkuil
Instead of filling in the struct v4l2_capability device_caps field, fill in the struct video_device device_caps field. That way the V4L2 core knows what the capabilities of the video device are. But this only really works if all drivers use this, so convert all pci drivers in this patch. Tested with cx88-blackbird and ivtv PVR-350.
