2023-12-13net: ethtool: pass a pointer to parameters to get/set_rxfh ethtool opsAhmed Zaki
The get/set_rxfh ethtool ops currently takes the rxfh (RSS) parameters as direct function arguments. This will force us to change the API (and all drivers' functions) every time some new parameters are added. This is part 1/2 of the fix, as suggested in [1]: - First simplify the code by always providing a pointer to all params (indir, key and func); the fact that some of them may be NULL seems like a weird historic thing or a premature optimization. It will simplify the drivers if all pointers are always present. - Then make the functions take a dev pointer, and a pointer to a single struct wrapping all arguments. The set_* should also take an extack. 2023-08-08rtnetlink: remove redundant checks for nlattr IFLA_BRIDGE_MODELin Ma
The commit d73ef2d69c0d ("rtnetlink: let rtnl_bridge_setlink checks IFLA_BRIDGE_MODE length") added the nla_len check in rtnl_bridge_setlink, which is the only caller for ndo_bridge_setlink handlers defined in low-level driver codes. Hence, this patch cleanups the redundant checks in each ndo_bridge_setlink handler function. 2023-06-20be2net: Extend xmit workaround to BE3 chipRoss Lagerwall
We have seen a bug where the NIC incorrectly changes the length in the IP header of a padded packet to include the padding bytes. The driver already has a workaround for this so do the workaround for this NIC too. This resolves the issue. The NIC in question identifies itself as follows: [ 8.828494] be2net 0000:02:00.0: FW version is 10.7.110.31 [ 8.834759] be2net 0000:02:00.0: Emulex OneConnect(be3): PF FLEX10 port 1 02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Emulex Corporation OneConnect 10Gb NIC (be3) (rev 01) Fixes: ca34fe38f06d ("be2net: fix wrong usage of adapter->generation") Signed-off-by: Ross Lagerwall <ross.lagerwall@citrix.com> Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20230616164549.2863037-1-ross.lagerwall@citrix.com Signed-off-by: Jakub Kicinski <kuba@kernel.org>
2023-05-13net: introduce and use skb_frag_fill_page_desc()Yunsheng Lin
Most users use __skb_frag_set_page()/skb_frag_off_set()/ skb_frag_size_set() to fill the page desc for a skb frag. Introduce skb_frag_fill_page_desc() to do that. net/bpf/test_run.c does not call skb_frag_off_set() to set the offset, "copy_from_user(page_address(page), ...)" and 'shinfo' being part of the 'data' kzalloced in bpf_test_init() suggest that it is assuming offset to be initialized as zero, so call skb_frag_fill_page_desc() with offset being zero for this case. Also, skb_frag_set_page() is not used anymore, so remove it. 2023-04-23net: vlan: introduce skb_vlan_eth_hdr()Vladimir Oltean
Similar to skb_eth_hdr() introduced in commit 96cc4b69581d ("macvlan: do not assume mac_header is set in macvlan_broadcast()"), let's introduce a skb_vlan_eth_hdr() helper which can be used in TX-only code paths to get to the VLAN header based on skb->data rather than based on the skb_mac_header(skb). We also consolidate the drivers that dereference skb->data to go through this helper. 2023-03-08be2net: Drop redundant pci_enable_pcie_error_reporting()Bjorn Helgaas
pci_enable_pcie_error_reporting() enables the device to send ERR_* Messages. Since f26e58bf6f54 ("PCI/AER: Enable error reporting when AER is native"), the PCI core does this for all devices during enumeration, so the driver doesn't need to do it itself. Remove the redundant pci_enable_pcie_error_reporting() call from the driver. Also remove the corresponding pci_disable_pcie_error_reporting() from the driver .remove() path. Note that this only controls ERR_* Messages from the device. An ERR_* Message may cause the Root Port to generate an interrupt, depending on the AER Root Error Command register managed by the AER service driver. 2022-01-09be2net: Remove useless DMA-32 fallback configurationChristophe JAILLET
As stated in [1], dma_set_mask() with a 64-bit mask never fails if dev->dma_mask is non-NULL. So, if it fails, the 32 bits case will also fail for the same reason. So if dma_set_mask_and_coherent() succeeds, 'netdev->features' will have NETIF_F_HIGHDMA in all cases. Move the assignment of this feature in be_netdev_init() instead be_probe() which is a much logical place. Simplify code and remove some dead code accordingly. 2021-12-10be2net: Use irq_update_affinity_hint()Nitesh Narayan Lal
The driver uses irq_set_affinity_hint() to update the affinity_hint mask that is consumed by the userspace to distribute the interrupts. However, under the hood irq_set_affinity_hint() also applies the provided cpumask (if not NULL) as the affinity for the given interrupt which is an undocumented side effect. To remove this side effect irq_set_affinity_hint() has been marked as deprecated and new interfaces have been introduced. Hence, replace the irq_set_affinity_hint() with the new interface irq_update_affinity_hint() that only updates the affinity_hint pointer. 2021-10-14ethernet: constify references to netdev->dev_addr in driversJakub Kicinski
This big patch sprinkles const on local variables and function arguments which may refer to netdev->dev_addr. Commit 406f42fa0d3c ("net-next: When a bond have a massive amount of VLANs...") introduced a rbtree for faster Ethernet address look up. To maintain netdev->dev_addr in this tree we need to make all the writes to it got through appropriate helpers. Some of the changes here are not strictly required - const is sometimes cast off but pointer is not used for writing. It seems like it's still better to add the const in case the code changes later or relevant -W flags get enabled for the build. No functional changes. 2020-07-14be2net: convert to new udp_tunnel_nic infraJakub Kicinski
Convert be2net to new udp_tunnel_nic infra. NIC only takes one VxLAN port. Remove the port tracking using a list. The warning in be_work_del_vxlan_port() looked suspicious - like the driver expected ports to be removed in order of addition. be2net unregisters ports when going down and re-registers them (for skyhawk) when coming up, but it never checks if the device is up in the add_port / del_port callbacks. Make it use UDP_TUNNEL_NIC_INFO_OPEN_ONLY. Sadly this driver calls its own open/close functions directly so the udp_tunnel_nic_reset_ntf() workaround is needed. 2020-07-01benet: use generic power managementVaibhav Gupta
With legacy PM, drivers themselves were responsible for managing the device's power states and takes care of register states. After upgrading to the generic structure, PCI core will take care of required tasks and drivers should do only device-specific operations. Thus, there is no need to call the PCI helper functions like pci_enable/disable_device(), pci_save/restore_sate() and pci_set_power_state(). Compile-tested only. 2020-06-14treewide: replace '---help---' in Kconfig files with 'help'Masahiro Yamada
Since commit 84af7a6194e4 ("checkpatch: kconfig: prefer 'help' over '---help---'"), the number of '---help---' has been gradually decreasing, but there are still more than 2400 instances. This commit finishes the conversion. While I touched the lines, I also fixed the indentation. There are a variety of indentation styles found. a) 4 spaces + '---help---' b) 7 spaces + '---help---' c) 8 spaces + '---help---' d) 1 space + 1 tab + '---help---' e) 1 tab + '---help---' (correct indentation) f) 1 tab + 1 space + '---help---' g) 1 tab + 2 spaces + '---help---' In order to convert all of them to 1 tab + 'help', I ran the following commend: $ find . -name 'Kconfig*' | xargs sed -i 's/^[[:space:]]*---help---/\thelp/' Signed-off-by: Masahiro Yamada <masahiroy@kernel.org>

2019-07-21be2net: Synchronize be_update_queues with dev_watchdogBenjamin Poirier
As pointed out by Firo Yang, a netdev tx timeout may trigger just before an ethtool set_channels operation is started. be_tx_timeout(), which dumps some queue structures, is not written to run concurrently with be_update_queues(), which frees/allocates those queues structures. Add some synchronization between the two. 2019-07-16be2net: Signal that the device cannot transmit during reconfigurationBenjamin Poirier
While changing the number of interrupt channels, be2net stops adapter operation (including netif_tx_disable()) but it doesn't signal that it cannot transmit. This may lead dev_watchdog() to falsely trigger during that time. Add the missing call to netif_carrier_off(), following the pattern used in many other drivers. netif_carrier_on() is already taken care of in be_open().
