2025-02-14net: remove phylink_pcs .neg_mode booleanRussell King (Oracle)
As all PCS are using the neg_mode parameter rather than the legacy an_mode, remove the ability to use the legacy an_mode. We remove the tests in the phylink code, unconditionally passing the PCS neg_mode parameter to PCS methods, and remove setting the flag from drivers. 2024-10-09net: dpaa: use __dev_mc_sync in dpaa_set_rx_mode()Jonas Rebmann
The original driver first unregisters then re-registers all multicast addresses in the struct net_device_ops::ndo_set_rx_mode() callback. As the networking stack calls ndo_set_rx_mode() if a single multicast address change occurs, a significant amount of time may be used to first unregister and then re-register unchanged multicast addresses. This leads to performance issues when tracking large numbers of multicast addresses. Replace the unregister and register loop and the hand crafted mc_addr_list list handling with __dev_mc_sync(), to only update entries which have changed. On profiling with an fsl_dpa NIC, this patch presented a speedup of around 40 when successively setting up 2000 multicast groups using setsockopt(), without drawbacks on smaller numbers of multicast groups. For other drivers, we just hoist the call to phylink_pcs_neg_mode() to their pcs_config() method out of phylink_mii_c22_pcs_config(). Virtually all conventional network drivers are now converted to use phylink_generic_validate() - only DSA drivers and fman_memac remain, so lets remove the necessity for network drivers to explicitly set this member, and default to phylink_generic_validate() when unset. This is possible as .validate must currently be set. Any remaining instances that have not been addressed by this patch can be fixed up later. 2022-10-19net: dpaa: Convert to phylinkSean Anderson
This converts DPAA to phylink. All macs are converted. This should work with no device tree modifications (including those made in this series), except for QSGMII (as noted previously). The mEMAC configuration is one of the tricker areas. I have tried to capture all the restrictions across the various models. Most of the time, we assume that if the serdes supports a mode or the phy-interface-mode specifies it, then we support it. The only place we can't do this is (RG)MII, since there's no serdes. In that case, we rely on a (new) devicetree property. There are also several cases where half-duplex is broken. Unfortunately, only a single compatible is used for the MAC, so we have to use the board compatible instead. The 10GEC conversion is very straightforward, since it only supports XAUI. There is generally nothing to configure. The dTSEC conversion is broadly similar to mEMAC, but is simpler because we don't support configuring the SerDes (though this can be easily added) and we don't have multiple PCSs. From what I can tell, there's nothing different in the driver or documentation between SGMII and 1000BASE-X except for the advertising. Similarly, I couldn't find anything about 2500BASE-X. In both cases, I treat them like SGMII. These modes aren't used by any in-tree boards. Similarly, despite being mentioned in the driver, I couldn't find any documented SoCs which supported QSGMII. 2022-09-05net: dpaa: Adjust queue depth on rate changeSean Anderson
Instead of setting the queue depth once during probe, adjust it on the fly whenever we configure the link. This is a bit unusal, since usually the DPAA driver calls into the FMAN driver, but here we do the opposite. We need to add a netdev to struct mac_device for this, but it will soon live in the phylink config. I haven't tested this extensively, but it doesn't seem to break anything. We could possibly optimize this a bit by keeping track of the last rate, but for now we just update every time. 10GEC probably doesn't need to call into this at all, but I've added it for consistency. 2022-08-19net: fman: dtsec: Always gracefully stop/startSean Anderson
There are two ways that GRS can be set: graceful_stop and dtsec_isr. It is cleared by graceful_start. If it is already set before calling graceful_stop, then that means that dtsec_isr set it. In that case, we will not set GRS nor will we clear it (which seems like a bug?). For GTS the logic is similar, except that there is no one else messing with this bit (so we will always set and clear it). Simplify the logic by always setting/clearing GRS/GTS. This is less racy that the previous behavior, and ensures that we always end up clearing the bits. This can of course clear GRS while dtsec_isr is waiting, but because we have already done our own waiting it should be fine. This is the last user of enum comm_mode, so remove it. This big patch sprinkles const on local variables and function arguments which may refer to netdev->dev_addr. Commit 406f42fa0d3c ("net-next: When a bond have a massive amount of VLANs...") introduced a rbtree for faster Ethernet address look up. To maintain netdev->dev_addr in this tree we need to make all the writes to it got through appropriate helpers. Some of the changes here are not strictly required - const is sometimes cast off but pointer is not used for writing. It seems like it's still better to add the const in case the code changes later or relevant -W flags get enabled for the build. No functional changes. Fun set of conflict resolutions here... For the mac80211 stuff, these were fortunately just parallel adds. Trivially resolved. In drivers/net/phy/phy.c we had a bug fix in 'net' that moved the function phy_disable_interrupts() earlier in the file, whilst in 'net-next' the phy_error() call from this function was removed. In net/ipv4/xfrm4_policy.c, David Ahern's changes to remove the 'rt_table_id' member of rtable collided with a bug fix in 'net' that added a new struct member "rt_mtu_locked" which needs to be copied over here. The mlxsw driver conflict consisted of net-next separating the span code and definitions into separate files, whilst a 'net' bug fix made some changes to that moved code. The mlx5 infiniband conflict resolution was quite non-trivial, the RDMA tree's merge commit was used as a guide here, and here are their notes: ==================== Due to bug fixes found by the syzkaller bot and taken into the for-rc branch after development for the 4.17 merge window had already started being taken into the for-next branch, there were fairly non-trivial merge issues that would need to be resolved between the for-rc branch and the for-next branch. This merge resolves those conflicts and provides a unified base upon which ongoing development for 4.17 can be based. The Coccinelle semantic patch script "deref_null.cocci" pointed a problem out in the implementation of the function "dtsec_config". A null pointer was assigned to the data structure member "tbiphy" of the variable "dtsec" if a matching device was not found. A call of the function "put_device" was unnecessary then because a previous call of the function "get_device" was not triggered.
