2025-06-17wifi: ath12k: don't use static variables in ath12k_wmi_fw_stats_process()Baochen Qiang
Currently ath12k_wmi_fw_stats_process() is using static variables to count firmware stat events. Taking num_vdev as an example, if for whatever reason (say ar->num_started_vdevs is 0 or firmware bug etc.) the following condition (++num_vdev) == total_vdevs_started is not met, is_end is not set thus num_vdev won't be cleared. Next time when firmware stats is requested again, even if everything is working fine, failure is expected due to the condition above will never be satisfied. The same applies to num_bcn as well. Change to use non-static counters and reset them each time before firmware stats is requested. 2025-06-17wifi: ath12k: avoid burning CPU while waiting for firmware statsBaochen Qiang
ath12k_mac_get_fw_stats() is busy polling fw_stats_done flag while waiting firmware finishing sending all events. This is not good as CPU is monopolized and kept burning during the wait. Change to the completion mechanism to fix it. When the execution of ath12k_core_hw_group_assign() or ath12k_core_hw_group_create() fails, the registered notifier chain is not unregistered properly. Its memory is freed after rmmod, which may trigger to a use-after-free (UAF) issue if there is a subsequent access to this notifier chain. 2025-05-19wifi: ath12k: Reorder and relocate the release of resources in ↵Yingying Tang
ath12k_core_deinit() Ath12k panic notifier is registered in driver loading process. But it is not unregistered if ATH12K_FLAG_QMI_FAIL is set(e.g. load BDF failed) and unload driver. It causes a dirty node in panic notifier list since ath12k panic notifier is not unregistered from list but the buffer of this node is freed in driver unloading process. If load driver again there will be a page fault error due to this dirty node in panic notifier list. This issue is caused by asymmetry between ath12k_core_init() and ath12k_core_deinit(). Reorder and relocate the release of resources in ath12k_core_deinit() to avoid this asymmetry issue. 2025-04-17wifi: ath12k: fix node corruption in ar->arvifs listMaharaja Kennadyrajan
In current WLAN recovery code flow, ath12k_core_halt() only reinitializes the "arvifs" list head. This will cause the list node immediately following the list head to become an invalid list node. Because the prev of that node still points to the list head "arvifs", but the next of the list head "arvifs" no longer points to that list node. When a WLAN recovery occurs during the execution of a vif removal, and it happens before the spin_lock_bh(&ar->data_lock) in ath12k_mac_vdev_delete(), list_del() will detect the previously mentioned situation, thereby triggering a kernel panic. The fix is to remove and reinitialize all vif list nodes from the list head "arvifs" during WLAN halt. The reinitialization is to make the list nodes valid, ensuring that the list_del() in ath12k_mac_vdev_delete() can execute normally. 2025-04-15wifi: ath12k: support MLO as well if single_chip_mlo_support flag is setBaochen Qiang
Currently firmware MLO capability is validated via firmware IE, however WCN7850 firmware does not support this method but instead advertises MLO by single_chip_mlo_support bit in QMI phy capability message. 2025-04-11wifi: ath12k: reset MLO global memory during recoveryAditya Kumar Singh
When operating with multiple devices grouped together, the firmware stores data related to the state machine of each partner device in the MLO global memory region. If the firmware crashes, it updates the state to 'crashed'. During recovery, this memory is shared with the firmware again, and upon detecting the 'crashed' state, it reasserts. This leads to a loop of firmware asserts and it never recovers. Hence to fix this issue, once all devices in the group have been asserted and powered down, reset the MLO global memory region. 2025-04-11wifi: ath12k: handle ath12k_core_reset() with hardware groupingAditya Kumar Singh
Currently, in ath12k_core_reset(), the device is powered up immediately after a power down. However, with hardware grouping, when one device asserts, all partner devices also asserts. If there is a delay in processing these asserts, by the time this device powers up, other devices might still be asserting, leading to an overall recovery failure. To prevent this issue, ensure all asserts for a group are processed before initiating the power-up sequence. 2025-04-11wifi: ath12k: handle ath12k_core_restart() with hardware groupingAditya Kumar Singh
Currently, when ath12k_core_restart() is called and the ab->is_reset flag is set, it invokes ieee80211_restart_hw() for all hardware in the same group. However, other hardware might still be in the recovery process, making this call inappropriate with grouping into picture. To address this, add a condition to check if the group is ready. If the group is not ready, do not call ieee80211_restart_hw(). 2025-04-11wifi: ath12k: fix ath12k_core_pre_reconfigure_recovery() with groupingAditya Kumar Singh
Currently, ath12k_core_pre_reconfigure_recovery() reconfigures all radios within the same group. During grouping and driver going for a recovery, this function is called as many times as there are devices in the group. Consequently, it performs the same reconfiguration multiple times, which is unnecessary. To prevent this, add a check to continue if the action has already been taken. To simplify the management of various flags, the reason for hardware queues being stopped is used as a check instead of introducing a new flag. While at it, also add missing wiphy locks. Wiphy lock is required since ath12k_mac_drain_tx() which is called by ath12k_core_pre_reconfigure_recovery() needs this lock to be held by the caller. 2025-04-11wifi: ath12k: fix ATH12K_FLAG_REGISTERED flag handlingAditya Kumar Singh
Commit a5686ae820fa ("wifi: ath12k: move ATH12K_FLAG_REGISTERED handling to ath12k_mac_register()") relocated the setting of the ATH12K_FLAG_REGISTERED flag to the ath12k_mac_register() function. However, this function only accesses the first device (ab) via ag->ab[0], resulting in the flag being set only for the first device in the group. Similarly, ath12k_mac_unregister() only unsets the flag for the first device. The flag should actually be set for all devices in the group to avoid issues during recovery. Hence, move setting and clearing of this flag in the function ath12k_core_hw_group_start() and ath12k_core_hw_group_stop() respectively. 2025-04-11wifi: ath12k: add reference counting for core attachment to hardware groupAditya Kumar Singh
Currently, driver does not manage reference counting for attaching and detaching cores to/from hardware groups. This can lead to issues when multiple cores are involved. Or with same core, attach/detach is called multiple times back to back. Fix this issue by using reference counting. With that, it is now ensured that the core is properly attached or detached from the hardware group and even back to back calls will not alter the count. Additionally, add some debug logs during the attachment and detachment events for better debugging and tracking. 2025-04-02wifi: ath12k: store and send country code to firmware after recoveryWen Gong
Currently ath12k does not send the country code to firmware after device recovery. As a result the country code will be the default one which is reported from firmware. Country code is important, so ath12k also need to restore it to the value which was used before recovery. This is only needed for platforms which support the current_cc_support hardware parameter. 2025-04-02wifi: ath12k: add 11d scan offload supportWen Gong
The flow of 11d scan is: 1. trigger 11d scan. 2. receive, parse, and update 11d scan result. 3. stop 11d scan. So need to add handler for WMI_11D_SCAN_START_CMDID and WMI_11D_SCAN_STOP_CMDID to trigger/stop 11d scan. Add process of WMI event WMI_11D_NEW_COUNTRY_EVENTID for 11d scan result. There are two points that need to be noted: 1. The 11d scan priority is 'MEDIUM' in firmware, the hw scan priority is 'LOW'. When 11d scan is running, hw scan will be canceled. To avoid this, change the hw scan priority to 'MEDIUM' when 11d scan is running. 2. Need to add wait_for_completion_timeout() for scan.complete in ath12k_reg_update_chan_list() because 11d scan will cost more than 5 seconds. Due to another existing wait in ath12k_scan_stop(), there will be two scan.complete in different threads. Therefore use complete_all() instead of complete() for scan.complete. complete_all() can work well when it is only one thread wait for scan.complete. Currently, the monitor interface is not supported. To support the monitor interface, configure the monitor vdev state identifier, configure the HTT filter setup, subscribe the mac80211 NO_VIRTUAL_MONITOR feature, remove the VIRTUAL_MONITOR handler procedures since align to NO_VIRTUAL_MONITOR feature and prevent monitor interface to transmit packet. Therefore, add these procedures to add monitor interface support and enable the monitor interface support on the QCN9274 platform through the hardware parameter. Currently, firmware stats, comprising pdev, vdev and beacon stats are part of debugfs. In firmware pdev stats, firmware reports the final Tx power used to transmit each packet. If driver wants to know the final Tx power being used at firmware level, it can leverage from firmware pdev stats. 2025-01-22wifi: ath12k: add factory test mode supportAaradhana Sahu
Add support to process factory test mode commands(FTM) for calibration. By default firmware start with MISSION mode and to process the FTM commands firmware needs to be restarted in FTM mode using module parameter ftm_mode. The pre-request is all the radios should be down before starting the test. All ath12k test mode interface related commands specified in enum ath_tm_cmd. When start command ATH_TM_CMD_TESTMODE_START is received, ar state is set to test Mode and FTM daemon sends test mode command to wifi driver via cfg80211. Wifi driver sends these command to firmware as wmi events. If it is segmented commands it will be broken down into multiple segments and encoded with TLV header else it is sent to firmware as it is. Firmware response via UTF events, wifi driver creates skb and send to cfg80211, cfg80211 sends firmware response to FTM daemon via netlink message. 2024-12-16wifi: ath12k: parse multiple device information from Device TreeRaj Kumar Bhagat
Currently, a single device is part of the device group abstraction. However, for multi-link operations, multiple devices need to be combined. This multi-device grouping is done via WSI (WLAN Serial Interface), which is described in the Device Tree. Information about different WSI groups and the number of devices involved in each group can be parsed from the Device Tree. Add changes to parse the Device Tree and determine WSI information, such as the different WSI groups and the number of devices per WSI group. Assign WSI index zero to the WSI controller device (to synchronize the clock among the devices within the WSI group), and increment the WSI index of each device in the order of the WSI connection. 2024-12-05wifi: ath12k: introduce mlo_capable flag for device groupKarthikeyan Periyasamy
Currently, during mac80211 allocate and register single device is considered for the registration. But, in future, during multi device group abstraction is introduced, all the devices has to be combined together as a single abstraction and then hardware should be allocated. All the devices in the group should be combined together only if it supports inter device mlo capability. The decision of whether to combine the devices or not can be based on the mlo capability flag in ath12k_hw_group. By default, mlo_capable flag in the group would be set as false. During QMI PHY capability exchange, only when we have more than one chip in the group or if one chip, then that chip supports inter MLO, then mlo_capable flag in the group will be enabled. Add changes to introduce mlo_capable flag for device group and refactor ath12k_mac_hw_allocate() api based on device group (ag) rather than device (ab). 2024-12-05wifi: ath12k: send QMI host capability after device group is readyKarthikeyan Periyasamy
QMI host capability has the information regarding MLO parameters such as device_id, MLO capability, group id and the information of each devices involved in the group and sent immediately on QMI server arrive event. Currently, only one device is involved in the group and hence, single device information is sent as part of MLO capability of host. But, in future when multi device group abstraction is introduced, host should send all the device information involved in the group as part of QMI MLO host capability rather than single device. Hence, sending QMI host capability immediately on server arrive of a device might not be ideal for multi device group abstraction as the details of other devices in the group would not be available. Hence, once QMI server arrive event is received, request for QMI PHY capabilities of device, and defer the host capability send for that device. After QMI PHY capability is received for all the devices in the group trigger the host capability event for the deferred devices in the group. Hence, add changes to defer the QMI host capability event until the device group is ready and then resume the QMI exchange for all the device with host capabilities. Currently, mac allocate/register and core_pdev_create are initiated immediately when QMI firmware ready event is received for a particular device. With hardware device group abstraction, QMI firmware ready event can be received simultaneously for different devices in the group and so, it should not be registered immediately rather it has to be deferred until all devices in the group has received QMI firmware ready. To handle this, refactor the code of core start to have registering within ath12k_core_hw_group_start() and unregistering in ath12k_core_hw_group_stop(). 2024-12-05wifi: ath12k: introduce device group abstractionKarthikeyan Periyasamy
Currently, single device is probed, and once firmware is ready, the device is registered to mac80211. For Multi-Link Operation, different bands of different devices or same device are part of a single wiphy and for this, hardware device group abstraction is needed. Hardware device group abstraction - when there are multiple devices (with single radio or dual radio) that are connected by any means of interface for communicating between them, then these devices can be combined together as a single group using a group id to form a group abstraction and register to mac80211. The grouping information of multiple devices would be based on device tree during device probe (will be implemented in future patches). If no such information is available, then a single device will be part of group abstraction and registered to mac80211, else multiple devices advertised in device tree are combined and then registered to mac80211. For device group abstraction, a base structure ath12k_hw_group (ag) and the helpers are implemented. These helpers are used during device probe and mapping the group to the devices involved. 2024-12-05wifi: ath12k: rename mlo_capable_flags to single_chip_mlo_suppAditya Kumar Singh
At present, the mlo_capable_flags in ath12k_base is used to indicate whether the chip supports inter (QCN9274) or intra (WCN7850) chip MLO. However, it’s possible that the chip supports neither, especially with older firmware versions. Additionally, if intra chip MLO is not supported, inter chip MLO will also be non-functional. Therefore, having two separate flags for this is unnecessary. Therefore, rename this flag to single_chip_mlo_supp. At the same time convert it into a bool data type. Also, get rid of the enums defined earlier. For the QCN9274 family of chipsets, this will be set only when firmware advertises the support during the QMI exchange. For the WCN7850 family of chipsets, since the event is not supported, assumption is made that single chip MLO is supported. In the upcoming hardware device group abstraction radios across different devices can be grouped together to support multi-link operation and register as a device group to mac80211. Currently, ath12k_mac_allocate() and ath12k_mac_register() are part of ath12k_core_start() and ath12k_core_pdev_create() respectively and are based on per device (struct ath12k_base). These APIs can be decoupled and moved out to ath12k_core_qmi_firmware_ready() itself. This refactor is helpful for device group abstraction when mac80211 allocate and register will be changed from per device (struct ath12k_base) to per device group (struct ath12k_hw_group). In case of firmware assert snapshot of firmware memory is essential for debugging. Add firmware coredump collection support for PCI bus. Collect RDDM and firmware paging dumps from MHI and pack them in TLV format and also pack various memory shared during QMI phase in separate TLVs. Add necessary header and share the dumps to user space using dev coredump framework. Coredump collection is disabled by default and can be enabled using menuconfig. Dump collected for a radio is 55 MB approximately. 2024-10-11wifi: ath12k: switch to using wiphy_lock() and remove ar->conf_mutexKalle Valo
Switch from using driver specific ar->conf_mutex to wiphy->mtx. The benefits are: * one lock less and simplified locking * possibility to use wiphy_work_queue() without other locks Most of the mac80211 ops are called within wiphy_lock(), most notable exception being tx op. This can be checked with lockdep_assert_wiphy() from net/mac80211/driver-ops.[ch] and I veried that by manually going through all the ops in ath12k_ops which had lockdep_assert_wiphy(). The conversion was simple: * All conf_mutex lock() and unlock() calls which already were called under wiphy_lock() I replaced with lockdep_assert_wiphy(). * The rest of conf_mutex calls I replaced with wiphy_lock() and wiphy_unlock(). * All lockdep_asset_held(conf_mutex) calls I replaced with lockdep_assert_wiphy(). One exception was in ath12k_core_post_reconfigure_recovery() where the wiphy lock needs to be taken before hw_mutex to avoid a lockdep warning.
