In a future patch HAS_IOPORT=n will disable inb()/outb() and friends at
compile time. We thus need to depend on HAS_IOPORT even when compile
testing only.

Pull documentation update from Jonathan Corbet:
"Another moderately busy cycle for documentation, including:
- The minimum Sphinx requirement has been raised to 2.4.4, following
a warning that was added in 6.2
- Some reworking of the Documentation/process front page to,
hopefully, make it more useful
- Various kernel-doc tweaks to, for example, make it deal properly
with __counted_by annotations
- We have also restored a warning for documentation of nonexistent
structure members that disappeared a while back. That had the
delightful consequence of adding some 600 warnings to the docs
build. A sustained effort by Randy, Vegard, and myself has
addressed almost all of those, bringing the documentation back into
sync with the code. The fixes are going through the appropriate
maintainer trees
- Various improvements to the HTML rendered docs, including automatic
links to Git revisions and a nice new pulldown to make translations
easy to access

Pull ACPI updates from Rafael Wysocki:
"From the new features standpoint, the most significant change here is
the addition of CSI-2 and MIPI DisCo for Imaging support to the ACPI
device enumeration code that will allow MIPI cameras to be enumerated
through the platform firmware on systems using ACPI.
Also significant is the switch-over to threaded interrupt handlers for
the ACPI SCI and the dedicated EC interrupt (on systems where the
former is not used) which essentially allows all ACPI code to run with
local interrupts enabled. That should improve responsiveness
significantly on systems where multiple GPEs are enabled and the
handling of one SCI involves many I/O address space accesses which
previously had to be carried out in one go with disabled interrupts on
the local CPU.
Apart from the above, the ACPI thermal zone driver will use the
Thermal fast Sampling Period (_TFP) object if available, which should
allow temperature changes to be followed more accurately on some
systems, the ACPI Notify () handlers can run on all CPUs (not just on
CPU0), which should generally speed up the processing of events
signaled through the ACPI SCI, and the ACPI power button driver will
trigger wakeup key events via the input subsystem (on systems where it
is a system wakeup device)
In addition to that, there are the usual bunch of fixes and cleanups.
Specifics:
- Add CSI-2 and DisCo for Imaging support to the ACPI device
enumeration code (Sakari Ailus, Rafael J. Wysocki)
- Adjust the cpufreq thermal reduction algorithm in the ACPI
processor driver for Tegra241 (Srikar Srimath Tirumala, Arnd

- Switch over ACPI to using a threaded interrupt handler for the SCI

Now that the driver core can properly handle constant struct bus_type,
move the pnp_bus_type variable to be a constant structure as well,
placing it into read-only memory which can not be modified at runtime.

driver-api/isapnp documents /proc interfaces for interfacing directly
with ISA Plug & Play devices, not any kind of API for kernel developers,
and should thus also live under userspace-api/.
Also fix a few issues while we're at it.

Actually replace the numeric values by the new symbolic values.
I used this to find all the existing users of the GDT_ENTRY*() macros:

Some of the lines will exceed 80 characters, but some of them will be
shorter again in the next couple of patches.

According to the comments in include/linux/fortify-string.h, 'memcpy()',
'memmove()' and 'memset()' must not be used beyond individual struct
members to ensure that the compiler can enforce protection against
buffer overflows, and, IIUC, this also applies to partial copies from
the particular member ('vendor->byte_data' in this case). So it should
be better (and safer) to do both copies at once (and 'byte_data' of
'struct acpi_resource_vendor_typed' seems to be a good candidate for
'__counted_by(byte_length)' as well).

strncpy() is deprecated for use on NUL-terminated destination strings
[1] and as such we should prefer more robust and less ambiguous
interfaces.
After having precisely calculated the lengths and ensuring we don't
overflow the buffer, this really decays to just a memcpy. Let's not use
a C string api as it makes the intention of the code confusing.
It'd be nice to use strscpy() in this case (as we clearly want
NUL-termination) because it'd clean up the code a bit. However, I don't
quite know enough about what is going on here to justify a drop-in
replacement -- too much bit magic and why (PNP_NAME_LEN - 2)? I'm afraid
using strscpy() may result in copying too many or too few bytes into our
dev->name buffer resulting in different behavior. At least using
memcpy() we can ensure the behavior is exactly the same.
Side note:
NUL-padding is not required because insert_device() calls
pnpbios_parse_data_stream() with a zero-allocated `dev`:

strncpy() is deprecated for use on NUL-terminated destination strings
[1] and as such we should prefer more robust and less ambiguous string
interfaces.
We know dev->name should be NUL-terminated based on the presence of a
manual NUL-byte assignment.
NUL-padding is not required as dev is already zero-allocated which
renders any further NUL-byte assignments redundant:
dev = pnp_alloc_dev(&pnpacpi_protocol, num, pnpid); --->
dev = kzalloc(sizeof(struct pnp_dev), GFP_KERNEL);
Considering the above, a suitable replacement is `strscpy` [2] due to
the fact that it guarantees NUL-termination on the destination buffer
without unnecessarily NUL-padding. This simplifies the code and makes
the intent/behavior more obvious.

This appears to be a valid issue since the destination string may not be

Instead of open-coding it everywhere introduce a tiny helper that can be
used to iterate over each resource of a PCI device, and convert the most
obvious users into it.
While at it drop doubled empty line before pdev_sort_resources().
No functional changes intended.

On an Advantech MICA-071 tablet, with a builtin barcode scanner connected
to ttyS0, the following message is shown on suspend:
serial 00:02: disabled
And after suspend/resume trying to use the barcode scanner / ttyS0 shows:
serial 00:02: LSR safety check engaged!
Indicating that the UARTs io-ports are no longer reachable.
This is caused by __pnp_bus_suspend() calling pnp_stop_dev() on the "00:02"
pnp device on suspend (this outputs the disabled message).
The problem is that pnp_can_write() returns false for the "00:02" pnp
device, so after disabling it (disabling its decoding of IO addresses)
during suspend, it cannot be re-enabled.
Add a pnp_can_write() check to the suspend path and only disable devices
which can actually be re-enabled on resume.
This fixes the Advantech MICA-071's ttyS0 no longer working after
a suspend/resume.

ACPI IRQ/Interrupt resources contain a bit that describes if the
interrupt should wake the system. This change exposes that bit via
a new IORESOURCE_IRQ_WAKECAPABLE flag. Drivers should check this flag
before arming an IRQ to wake the system.

pci_get_legacy_ide_irq() is only used on platforms that support PNP, so
many architectures define it but never use it. Replace uses of it with
ATA_PRIMARY_IRQ() and ATA_SECONDARY_IRQ(), which provide the same
functionality.
Since pci_get_legacy_ide_irq() is no longer used, remove all the
architecture-specific definitions of it as well as asm-generic/pci.h, which
only provides pci_get_legacy_ide_irq()

Currently, suspend_report_result() prints only function information.
If any driver uses a common PM function, nobody knows who exactly
called the failing function.
A device pinter is needed to recognize the failing device.
For example:

Update complete_and_exit to call kthread_exit instead of do_exit.
Change the name to reflect this change in functionality. All of the
users of complete_and_exit are causing the current kthread to exit so
this change makes it clear what is happening.
Move the implementation of kthread_complete_and_exit from
kernel/exit.c to to kernel/kthread.c. As this function is kthread
specific it makes most sense to live with the kthread functions.
There are no functional change.

The driver core ignores the return value of this callback because there
is only little it can do when a device disappears.
This is the final bit of a long lasting cleanup quest where several
buses were converted to also return void from their remove callback.
Additionally some resource leaks were fixed that were caused by drivers
returning an error code in the expectation that the driver won't go
away.
With struct bus_type::remove returning void it's prevented that newly
implemented buses return an ignored error code and so don't anticipate
wrong expectations for driver authors.

The kernel will complain anyway if it runs out of memory, so it is
not necessary to print an extra error message when that happens and
kzalloc() can be called directly instead of pnp_alloc() which then
becomes redundant and can be dropped.

Since commit 84af7a6194e4 ("checkpatch: kconfig: prefer 'help' over
'---help---'"), the number of '---help---' has been gradually
decreasing, but there are still more than 2400 instances.
This commit finishes the conversion. While I touched the lines,
I also fixed the indentation.
There are a variety of indentation styles found.
a) 4 spaces + '---help---'
b) 7 spaces + '---help---'
c) 8 spaces + '---help---'
d) 1 space + 1 tab + '---help---'
e) 1 tab + '---help---' (correct indentation)
f) 1 tab + 1 space + '---help---'
g) 1 tab + 2 spaces + '---help---'
In order to convert all of them to 1 tab + 'help', I ran the
following commend:
$ find . -name 'Kconfig*' | xargs sed -i 's/^[[:space:]]*---help---/\thelp/'

The current codebase makes use of the zero-length array language
extension to the C90 standard, but the preferred mechanism to declare
variable-length types such as these ones is a flexible array member[1][2],
introduced in C99:
struct foo {
int stuff;
struct boo array[];
};
By making use of the mechanism above, we will get a compiler warning
in case the flexible array does not occur last in the structure, which
will help us prevent some kind of undefined behavior bugs from being
inadvertently introduced[3] to the codebase from now on.
Also, notice that, dynamic memory allocations won't be affected by
this change:
"Flexible array members have incomplete type, and so the sizeof operator
may not be applied. As a quirk of the original implementation of
zero-length arrays, sizeof evaluates to zero."[1]
sizeof(flexible-array-member) triggers a warning because flexible array
members have incomplete type[1]. There are some instances of code in
which the sizeof operator is being incorrectly/erroneously applied to
zero-length arrays and the result is zero. Such instances may be hiding
some bugs. So, this work (flexible-array member conversions) will also
help to get completely rid of those sorts of issues.
This issue was found with the help of Coccinelle.

%pF and %pf are functionally equivalent to %pS and %ps conversion
specifiers. The former are deprecated, therefore switch the current users
to use the preferred variant.
The changes have been produced by the following command:
