2024-11-05nilfs2: convert persistent object allocator to be folio-basedRyusuke Konishi
Regarding the persistent oject allocator, a common mechanism for allocating objects in metadata files such as inodes and DAT entries, convert the page-based implementation to a folio-based implementation. In this conversion, helper functions nilfs_palloc_group_desc_offset() and nilfs_palloc_bitmap_offset() are added and used to calculate the byte offset within a folio of a group descriptor structure and bitmap, respectively, to replace kmap_local_page with kmap_local_folio. In addition, a helper function called nilfs_palloc_entry_offset() is provided to facilitate common calculation of the byte offset within a folio of metadata file entries managed in the persistent object allocator format. 2024-07-03nilfs2: fix incorrect inode allocation from reserved inodesRyusuke Konishi
If the bitmap block that manages the inode allocation status is corrupted, nilfs_ifile_create_inode() may allocate a new inode from the reserved inode area where it should not be allocated. Previous fix commit d325dc6eb763 ("nilfs2: fix use-after-free bug of struct nilfs_root"), fixed the problem that reserved inodes with inode numbers less than NILFS_USER_INO (=11) were incorrectly reallocated due to bitmap corruption, but since the start number of non-reserved inodes is read from the super block and may change, in which case inode allocation may occur from the extended reserved inode area. If that happens, access to that inode will cause an IO error, causing the file system to degrade to an error state. Fix this potential issue by adding a wraparound option to the common metadata object allocation routine and by modifying nilfs_ifile_create_inode() to disable the option so that it only allocates inodes with inode numbers greater than or equal to the inode number read in "nilfs->ns_first_ino", regardless of the bitmap status of reserved inodes. 2015-11-06nilfs2: free unused dat file blocks during garbage collectionRyusuke Konishi
As a nilfs2 volume ages, the amount of available disk space decreases little by little due to bloat of DAT (disk address translation) metadata file. Even if we delete all files in a file system and free their block addresses from the DAT file through a garbage collection, empty DAT blocks are not freed. This fixes the issue by extending the deallocator of block addresses so that empty data blocks and empty bitmap blocks of DAT are deleted. The following comparison shows the effect of this patch. Each shows disk amount information of a nilfs2 volume that we cleaned out by deleting all files and running gc after having filled 90% of its capacity. 2009-11-20nilfs2: add cache framework for persistent object allocatorRyusuke Konishi
This adds setup and cleanup routines of the persistent object allocator cache. According to ftrace analyses, accessing buffers of the DAT file suffers indispensable overhead many times. To mitigate the overhead, This introduce cache framework for the persistent object allocator (palloc) which the DAT file and ifile are using. struct nilfs_palloc_cache represents the cache object per metadata file using palloc. The cache is initialized through nilfs_palloc_setup_cache() and destroyed by nilfs_palloc_destroy_cache(); callers of the former function will be added to individual allocators of DAT and ifile on successive patches. nilfs_palloc_destroy_cache() will be called from nilfs_mdt_destroy() if the cache is attached to a metadata file. A companion function nilfs_palloc_clear_cache() is provided to allow releasing buffer head references independently with the cleanup task.
