2025-06-18media: rcar-vin: Check for correct capture interrupt eventNiklas Söderlund
Depending on if the capture session deals with fields or whole frames interrupts can be generated at an end of field, or end of frame event. The interrupt mask is setup to generate an interrupt on one of the two events depending on what is needed when the VIN is started. The end of field bit is set in both cases so controlling the mask that generates an interrupt have been enough to control the two use-cases. Before extending the interrupt handler to deal with other types of interrupt events it is needs to extended to "capture complete" check for correct the use-case in operation. Without this the simplification in the handler can result in corrupted frames when the mask on what type of events can generate an interrupt generated can no longer be assumed to only be an "capture complete" event. Which bit is checked matches which bit is enabled at configuration time as which event can generate an interrupt for "capture complete". There is no functional change. While at it switch to use the BIT() macro to describe the bit positions for the interrupt functions. 2025-06-18media: rcar-vin: Fold interrupt helpers into only callersNiklas Söderlund
The call sites using the interrupt helper functions have all been reworked to only one for each. Fold each of them into the only call sites left. This fixes a possible interrupt loss in case an interrupt occurs between reading VNINTS_REG in rvin_get_interrupt_status() and reading it again in rvin_ack_interrupt(). While at it rename the variable holding the current interrupt status to make the code easier to read. 2025-06-16media: rcar-vin: Enable media-graph on Gen2Niklas Söderlund
Complete the conversion from soc_camera to a full fledge media controller enabled devices for all supported generations of the device. All work is already done as this is already supported on Gen3, and later. All that is missing is removing all special cases for the non media-graph call paths and use the common ones in their place. The one change that stands out is dropping the doubling of the height in the Gen2 scaler setup, rvin_scaler_gen2(). In the Gen2 non-MC world the VIN size was set to match the video source subdevices, and if that was a TOP/BOTTOM video source it needed to be doubled for the scaler to function properly. In the MC world this is now handled by user-space configuration of the pipeline and the adjustment is not needed. Mark the completion of converting from soc_camera by injecting an attribution of myself in the header. 2025-06-16media: rcar-vin: Merge all notifiersNiklas Söderlund
The VIN usage of v4l-async is complex and stems from organic growth of the driver of supporting both private local subdevices (Gen2, Gen3) and subdevices shared between all VIN instances (Gen3 and Gen4). The driver used a separate notifier for each VIN for the private local ones, and a shared group notifier for the shared ones. This was complex and lead to subtle bugs when unbinding and later rebinding subdevices in one of the notifiers having to handle different edge cases depending on if it also had subdevices in the other notifiers etc. To simplify this have the Gen2 devices allocate and form a VIN group too. This way all subdevices on all models can be collect in a single group notifier. Then there is only a single complete callback for all where the video devices and subdevice nodes can be registered etc. Signed-off-by: Niklas Söderlund <niklas.soderlund+renesas@ragnatech.se> Tested-by: Tomi Valkeinen <tomi.valkeinen+renesas@ideasonboard.com> Reviewed-by: Laurent Pinchart <laurent.pinchart+renesas@ideasonboard.com> Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20250613153434.2001800-9-niklas.soderlund+renesas@ragnatech.se Signed-off-by: Laurent Pinchart <laurent.pinchart@ideasonboard.com> Signed-off-by: Hans Verkuil <hverkuil@xs4all.nl>

2025-06-16media: rcar-vin: Change link setup argumentNiklas Söderlund

2025-04-25media: rcar-vin: Simplify the shutdown processNiklas Söderlund

This was needed as a buffer might be queued once to the driver, but two times to the hardware using different offsets. As support for SEQ_{TB,BT} is now removed this shutdown process can be greatly simplified. The STARTING state is superfluous and can be replaced with a check of the sequence counter. The design idea is that the first buffer returned from the driver have to come from the first hardware buffer slot. Failing this the first 3 buffers queued to the device can be returned out-of-order. But it's much clearer to check the sequence counter to only return the first buffer if it comes from hardware slot 0 then it is to carry around an extra state just for this. 2025-04-25media: rcar-vin: Remove emulated SEQ_{TB,BT}Niklas Söderlund
When the driver was converted from soc_camera software support for V4L2_FIELD_SEQ_TB and V4L2_FIELD_SEQ_BT were added. This was done by capturing twice to the same VB2 buffer, but at different offsets. This turned out to be a bad idea and it never really worked properly in all situations. As the hardware can't support this mode natively remove trying to emulate it in software. It's still possible to capture TOP or BOTTOM fields separately or both ALTERNATING. If user-space wants the same fields in the same buffer the same hack to capture twice to the same buffer can be done. Removing this error prone emulated support pave ways in future work to simplify the internal buffer handling and making it less fragile, while enabling adding support for other features the hardware actually supports. 2024-02-16media: rcar-csi2: Move driver to renesas directoryNiklas Söderlund
The rcar-csi2 driver was added before the platform/renesas directory existed and since it was used together in a pipeline with the rcar-vin driver it was located together with it. The rcar-isp driver can also be used together with the rcar-csi2 driver in a pipeline that is terminated by the rcar-vin driver. However by the time rcar-isp was added the platform/renesas directory existed so it was added there. To remove the confusion that the rcar-csi2 driver have code dependencies on the rcar-vin driver move it to the same directory level as the rcar-isp driver. This makes it clear they are three distinct drivers that can be used together in a pipeline, but do not depend on each other. Add support for C-PHY on R-Car V4H. While the V4H supports both D-PHY and C-PHY this patch only adds support for the C-PHY mode due to lack of documentation and hardware to test on. The V4H is the first Gen4 device that is enabled in the rcar-csi2 driver. There is much overlap with the Gen3 driver, the primary difference is in how the receiver is started. The V4H have a much larger register space and some addresses overlap with Gen3. 2023-08-10media: v4l: async: Set v4l2_device and subdev in async notifier initSakari Ailus
Set the v4l2_device already in async notifier init, so struct device related to it will be available before the notifier is registered. This requires separating notifier initialisation into two functions, one that takes v4l2_device as its argument, v4l2_async_nf_init and v4l2_async_subdev_nf_init, for sub-device notifiers. Registering the notifier will use a single function, v4l2_async_nf_register. This is done in order to make struct device available earlier, during construction of the async connections, for sensible debug prints. 2023-07-28media: v4l: async: Rework internal listsSakari Ailus
This patch re-arranges internal V4L2 async lists for preparation of supporting multiple connections per sub-device as well as cleaning up used lists. The list of unbound V4L2 sub-devices shall be maintained for the purpose of listing those sub-devices only, not for their bindin status. Also, the V4L2 async connections now have, instead of two list entries, a single list entry in the notifier's list, be that either waiting or done lists, while the notifier's asc_list is removed. The one-to-one relation between a sub-device and a connection is still maintained in this patch. Rename v4l2_async_subdev as v4l2_async_connection, in order to differentiate between the sub-devices and their connections: one sub-device can have many connections but the V4L2 async framework has so far allowed just a single one. Connections in this context will later translate into either MC ancillary or data links. This patch prepares changing that relation by changing existing users of v4l2_async_subdev to switch to v4l2_async_connection. Async sub-devices themselves will not be needed anymore Additionally, __v4l2_async_nf_add_subdev() has been renamed __v4l2_async_nf_add_connection(). 2023-07-19media: Explicitly include correct DT includesRob Herring
The DT of_device.h and of_platform.h date back to the separate of_platform_bus_type before it as merged into the regular platform bus. As part of that merge prepping Arm DT support 13 years ago, they "temporarily" include each other. They also include platform_device.h and of.h. As a result, there's a pretty much random mix of those include files used throughout the tree. In order to detangle these headers and replace the implicit includes with struct declarations, users need to explicitly include the correct includes. When adding proper support for V4L2_FIELD_ALTERNATE it was missed that this field format should trigger an interrupt for each field, not just for the whole frame. Fix this by marking it as progressive in the capture setup, which will then select the correct interrupt mode. Tested on both Gen2 and Gen3 with the result of a doubling of the frame rate for V4L2_FIELD_ALTERNATE. From a PAL video source the frame rate is now 50, which is expected for alternate field capture. The VIN modules on Gen3 can not scale NV12, fail format validation if the user tries. Currently no frames are produced if this is attempted. Signed-off-by: Niklas Söderlund <niklas.soderlund+renesas@ragnatech.se> Signed-off-by: Hans Verkuil <hverkuil-cisco@xs4all.nl>
2023-04-11media: rcar-vin: csi2: remove R-Car H3 ES1.* handlingWolfram Sang
R-Car H3 ES1.* was only available to an internal development group and needed a lot of quirks and workarounds. These become a maintenance burden now, so our development group decided to remove upstream support and disable booting for this SoC. Public users only have ES2 onwards.
