2025-07-11ALSA: hda: Drop superfluous driver->ops NULL checksTakashi Iwai
After all conversions, driver->ops became a must in most places (except for the codec power setup which might be called before binding to the codec driver), hence we can get rid of the superfluous driver->ops NULL checks, too. 2025-07-11ALSA: hda: Drop old codec binding methodTakashi Iwai
Now that all patch_ops usage have been converted to the new hda_codec_ops probe, we can drop patch_ops from the hda_codec, together with the calls of patch_ops callbacks. The hda_codec_ops.free callback is removed as all have been replaced with the new remove callback. Also, correct comments mentioning "patch"; it's replaced with "codec driver". 2025-07-11ALSA: hda: Introduce hda_codec_driver opsTakashi Iwai
Until now, we use "patch_ops" embedded in hda_codec object for defining the callbacks that are used in various places to manage HD-audio codec. But from the device driver POV, this should have been rather the driver ops, instead of the callbacks in the codec object. This patch defines the driver ops for HD-audio codec driver as the replacement. We reuse the same struct hda_codec_ops, and this is put as hda_codec_driver.ops. When the driver->ops callbacks are defined, they are called primarily instead of codec->patch_ops callbacks. With converting to the driver ops, there is no need to pass the ugly patch_ops handling in hda_device_id tables. That is, driver_data field of hda_device_id becomes really optional and it can be used for passing the codec-specific data (e.g. specifying a model). The codec entries after the conversion should be with HDA_CODEC_ID() and co, instead of the former HDA_CODEC_ENTRY(). Once after converting all codec drivers to use driver ops, we can get rid of codec patch_ops. 2022-09-22ALSA: hda/hdmi: Use only dynamic PCM device allocationJaroslav Kysela
Per discussion on the alsa-devel mailing list [1], the legacy PIN to PCM device mapping is obsolete nowadays. The maximum number of the simultaneously usable PCM devices is equal to the HDMI codec converters. Remove the extra PCM devices (beyond the detected converters) and force the use of the dynamic PCM device allocation. The legacy code is removed. I believe that all HDMI codecs have the jack sensing feature. Move the check to the codec probe function and print a warning, if a codec without this feature is detected. 2022-03-03ASoC: hdac_hda: Avoid unexpected match when pcm_name is "Analog"Meng Tang
pcm name can be "Analog" and "Alt Analog", cpcm->name can be "Analog Codec DAI" and "Alt Analog Codec DAI". When pcm_name is "Analog", "Analog Codec DAI" and "Alt Analog Codec DAI" are both satisfy the 'if (strstr(cpcm->name, pcm_name))' condition, which may cause the returned cpcm to be "Alt Analog Codec DAI". Even if we get the pcm name by id, and "Analog Codec DAI" goes into the loop before "Alt Analog Codec DAI", but I still think we'd better have multiple insurances against unexpected return values. After, we can correctly return the expected result even if other relevant places are changed. Align with recent change to forbid runtime suspend during codec init in snd_hda_codec_device_new(), with matching call to allow suspend at end of hdac_hda_codec_probe(). In snd-hda-intel, call to snd_hda_set_power_save() at end of controller probe does the same thing, but ASoC controller drivers do not modify runtime settings for codecs, so this has to be done in codec drivers, and in this case in hdac_hda. 2020-07-22ASoC: hdac_hda: fix deadlock after PCM open errorKai Vehmanen
Commit 5bd70440cb0a ("ASoC: soc-dai: revert all changes to DAI startup/shutdown sequence"), introduced a slight change of semantics to DAI startup/shutdown. If startup() returns an error, shutdown() is now called for the DAI. This causes a deadlock in hdac_hda which issues a call to snd_hda_codec_pcm_put() in case open fails. Upon error, soc_pcm_open() will call shutdown(), and pcm_put() ends up getting called twice. Result is a deadlock on pcm->open_mutex, as snd_device_free() gets called from within snd_pcm_open(). Typical task backtrace looks like this: [ 334.244627] snd_pcm_dev_disconnect+0x49/0x340 [snd_pcm] [ 334.244634] __snd_device_disconnect.part.0+0x2c/0x50 [snd] [ 334.244640] __snd_device_free+0x7f/0xc0 [snd] [ 334.244650] snd_hda_codec_pcm_put+0x87/0x120 [snd_hda_codec] [ 334.244660] soc_pcm_open+0x6a0/0xbe0 [snd_soc_core] [ 334.244676] ? dpcm_add_paths.isra.0+0x491/0x590 [snd_soc_core] [ 334.244679] ? kfree+0x9a/0x230 [ 334.244686] dpcm_be_dai_startup+0x255/0x300 [snd_soc_core] [ 334.244695] dpcm_fe_dai_open+0x20e/0xf30 [snd_soc_core] [ 334.244701] ? snd_pcm_hw_rule_muldivk+0x110/0x110 [snd_pcm] [ 334.244709] ? dpcm_be_dai_startup+0x300/0x300 [snd_soc_core] [ 334.244714] ? snd_pcm_attach_substream+0x3c4/0x540 [snd_pcm] [ 334.244719] snd_pcm_open_substream+0x69a/0xb60 [snd_pcm] [ 334.244729] ? snd_pcm_release_substream+0x30/0x30 [snd_pcm] [ 334.244732] ? __mutex_lock_slowpath+0x10/0x10 [ 334.244736] snd_pcm_open+0x1b3/0x3c0 [snd_pcm] Fixes: 5bd70440cb0a ("ASoC: soc-dai: revert all changes to DAI startup/shutdown sequence") Signed-off-by: Kai Vehmanen <kai.vehmanen@linux.intel.com> Reviewed-by: Pierre-Louis Bossart <pierre-louis.bossart@linux.intel.com> Reviewed-by: Rander Wang <rander.wang@linux.intel.com> BugLink: https://github.com/thesofproject/linux/issues/2159 Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20200717101950.3885187-3-kai.vehmanen@linux.intel.com Signed-off-by: Mark Brown <broonie@kernel.org>
2020-07-22ASoC: hdac_hda: fix memleak on module unloadKai Vehmanen
The hdac_hda remove implementation fails to free the hda codec resources, leading to memleaks at module unload. This gap has been there from the start, commit 6bae5ea94989 ("ASoC: hdac_hda: add asoc extension for legacy HDA codec drivers"). Instead of duplicating the cleanup logic, use the common snd_hda_codec_cleanup_for_unbind() to free the resources. Remove existing code in hdac_hda to cleanup "codec.jackpoll_work" and call to snd_hdac_regmap_exit(), as these are already done in snd_hda_codec_cleanup_for_unbind(). The cleanup is done in ASoC component remove() callback and not in the HDAC bus hdev_detach(). This is done to ensure the codec specific cleanup routines are run before the parent card is freed. 2019-11-04ASoC: hdac_hda: fix race in device removalKai Vehmanen
When ASoC card instance is removed containing a HDA codec, hdac_hda_codec_remove() may run in parallel with codec resume. This will cause problems if the HDA link is freed with snd_hdac_ext_bus_link_put() while the codec is still in middle of its resume process. To fix this, change the order such that pm_runtime_disable() is called before the link is freed. This will ensure any pending runtime PM action is completed before proceeding to free the link. 2019-04-29ASoC: hdac_hda: overwrite hdev type to HDA_DEV_ASOCBard liao
In ASoC driver, snd_hdac_device_register() will be called by snd_hdac_ext_bus_device_init() and snd_hdac_device_unregister() will called by snd_hdac_ext_bus_device_remove(). However when ASoC codec driver call snd_hda_codec_device_new() to create a new hda codec, it will assign snd_hda_codec_dev_free() to the dev_free ops and snd_hda_codec_dev_free() will call snd_hdac_device_unregister(). As a result, snd_hdac_device_unregister() will be called twice in ASoC driver. To prevent it, we use hdev type to determine if the hda codec is registered by legacy HDA driver or ASoC driver and unregister device in snd_hda_codec_dev_free() only if it is a legacy HDA device. This patch will overwrite the hdev type so that we can know it is a ASoC device. Signed-off-by: Bard liao <yung-chuan.liao@linux.intel.com> Signed-off-by: Takashi Iwai <tiwai@suse.de>
2019-03-11ASoC:hdac_hda:use correct format to setup hda codecRander Wang
The current implementation of the hdac_hda codec results in zero-valued samples on capture and noise with headset playback when SOF is used on platforms with an on-board HDaudio codec. This is root-caused to SOF using be_hw_params_fixup, and the prepare() call using invalid runtime fields to determine the format. This patch moves the format handling to the hw_params() callback, as done already for hdac_hdmi, to make sure the fixed-up information is taken into account but keeps the codec initialization in prepare() as the stream_tag is only available at that time. Moving everything in the prepare() callback is possible but the code is less elegant so this two-step solution was chosen. The solution was tested with the SST driver with no regressions, and all the issues with SOF playback and capture are solved. 2018-11-05ASoC: codecs: constify snd_soc_dai_ops structuresJulia Lawall
The snd_soc_dai_ops structures are only stored in the ops field of a snd_soc_dai_driver structure, so make the snd_soc_dai_ops structures const as well. Done with the help of Coccinelle. Signed-off-by: Julia Lawall <Julia.Lawall@lip6.fr> Signed-off-by: Mark Brown <broonie@kernel.org>

2018-08-28ASoC: hdac_hda: add asoc extension for legacy HDA codec driversRakesh Ughreja
This patch adds a kernel module which is used by the legacy HDA codec drivers as library. This implements hdac_ext_bus_ops to enable the reuse of legacy HDA codec drivers with ASoC platform drivers.
