When an CPU's performance domain is managed through the SCMI firmware, let's enable us describe this as a consumer of a power-domain provider, which is the de-facto standard to use for performance domains. 2023-02-14dt-bindings: arm: move cpu-capacity to a shared loationConor Dooley
RISC-V uses the same generic topology code as arm64 & while there currently exists no binding for cpu-capacity on RISC-V, the code paths can be hit if the property is present. Move the documentation of cpu-capacity to a shared location, ahead of defining a binding for capacity-dmips-mhz on RISC-V. Update some references to this document in the process. MSM8909 is a fairly old 32-bit SoC without PSCI support, so the additional CPU cores need to be initialized with a custom enable-method. Fortunately it works just like on MSM8226 and MSM8916 so just add an additional compatible as alias to the DT schema. Since MSM8916 is an ARM v8 64-bit SoC the CPU cores are normally booted using "psci" or "spin-table". Unfortunately, some devices come with signed 32-bit-only firmware without ARM64 and PSCI support. This setup is easy to support since it's very similar to older 32-bit only Qualcomm SoCs (e.g. MSM8226) and only requires adding a few new definitions to already existing drivers. Document the qcom,msm8916-smp enable-method. It is actually just an alias of qcom,msm8226-smp since it should be implemented identically. The enable-method is only valid on ARM32 and must not be used on ARM64. The CLKSCREW attack [0] exposed security vulnerabilities in energy management implementations where untrusted software had direct access to clock and voltage hardware controls. In this attack, the malicious software was able to place the platform into unsafe overclocked or undervolted configurations. Such configurations then enabled the injection of predictable faults to reveal secrets. Many Arm-based systems used to or still use voltage regulator and clock frameworks in the kernel. These frameworks allow callers to independently manipulate frequency and voltage settings. Such implementations can render systems susceptible to this form of attack. Attacks such as CLKSCREW are now being mitigated by not having direct and independent control of clock and voltage in the kernel and moving that control to a trusted entity, such as the SCP firmware or secure world firmware/software which are to perform sanity checking on the requested performance levels, thereby preventing any attempted malicious programming. With the advent of such an abstraction, there is a need to replace the generic clock and regulator bindings used by such devices with a generic performance domains bindings. Properties with standard unit suffixes already have a type and don't need type definitions. They also default to a single entry, so 'maxItems: 1' can be dropped. adi,ad5758 is an oddball which defined an enum of arrays. While a valid schema, it is simpler as a whole to only define scalar constraints. 2020-05-03dt-bindings: Remove cases of 'allOf' containing a '$ref'Rob Herring
json-schema versions draft7 and earlier have a weird behavior in that any keywords combined with a '$ref' are ignored (silently). The correct form was to put a '$ref' under an 'allOf'. This behavior is now changed in the 2019-09 json-schema spec and '$ref' can be mixed with other keywords. The json-schema library doesn't yet support this, but the tooling now does a fixup for this and either way works. This has been a constant source of review comments, so let's change this treewide so everyone copies the simpler syntax. Scripted with ruamel.yaml with some manual fixups. Some minor whitespace changes from the script.
