2025-05-16wifi: ath12k: add ring config for monitor mode on WCN7850Kang Yang
For WCN7850, it doesn't have an RX MON component(RX MON dest ring and RX MON buffer ring). So it can only reuse the mon status ring, RX refill ring, and error dst ring for monitor mode. Every time the hardware captures a packet, it will store status information into the status ring and store the MSDU payload buffer address into the error dst ring. When host reaps the MSDU payload and consumes a buffer, it will replenish the RX refill ring to indicate a new buffer. The configuration of the error dst/RX ring already exists. But there is no configuration for mon status ring. So add ring configuration for it. 2025-04-17wifi: ath12k: Use skb->len for dma_unmap_single() length parameterP Praneesh
During dma_unmap_single() for extended skb, the driver currently uses sizeof() of the corresponding structure. When the allocation size changes, one of the parameters of dma_unmap_single() needs to be updated everywhere. Improve code readability by using skb->len instead of sizeof() the structure. 2025-04-17wifi: ath12k: Fix memory leak during extended skb allocationP Praneesh
In ath12k_dp_tx(), memory allocated for extended skb is not freed properly, causing a memory leak even when the host receives tx completion for those skbs. Fix this issue by storing skb_ext_desc in the host tx descriptor and using this skb_ext_desc field during completion or during ath12k_dp_cc_cleanup(). 2025-04-17wifi: ath12k: Refactor tx descriptor handling in tx completion handlerP Praneesh
Current code uses mac_id and msdu parameters in ath12k_dp_tx_free_txbuf() and ath12k_dp_tx_process_htt_tx_complete(). Since these parameters are already encapsulated by struct ath12k_dp_tx_desc, passing them individually results in redundant arguments. Introduce struct ath12k_tx_desc_params to capture the skb, mac_id, and pass it to the corresponding functions. Refactor these functions to use struct ath12k_tx_desc_params instead, reducing the number of arguments and improving function argument handling efficiency. Additionally, use struct ath12k_tx_desc_params in ath12k_dp_tx_htt_tx_complete_buf() and ath12k_dp_tx_complete_msdu(), which will be utilized for fetching extended skb in a future patch. 2025-04-17wifi: ath12k: Handle error cases during extended skb allocationP Praneesh
Currently, in the case of extended skb allocation, the buffer is freed before the DMA unmap operation. This premature deletion can result in skb->data corruption, as the memory region could be re-allocated for other purposes. Fix this issue by reordering the failure cases by calling dma_unmap_single() first, then followed by the corresponding kfree_skb(). This helps avoid data corruption in case of failures in dp_tx(). 2025-04-07wifi: ath12k: Fix memory leak during vdev_id mismatchP Praneesh
Currently driver enables vdev_id check as part of the bank configuration in ath12k_dp_tx_get_vdev_bank_config(). This check ensures that the vdev_id configured in the bank register aligns with the vdev_id in the packet's address search table within the firmware. If there is a mismatch, the firmware forwards the packet with the HTT status HAL_WBM_REL_HTT_TX_COMP_STATUS_VDEVID_MISMATCH. Since driver does not handle this vdev_id mismatch HTT status, the corresponding buffers are not freed properly, causing a memory leak. Fix this issue by adding handling to free the buffers when a vdev_id mismatch HTT status is encountered. 2025-03-27wifi: ath12k: add monitor interface support on QCN9274P Praneesh
Currently, the monitor interface is not supported. To support the monitor interface, configure the monitor vdev state identifier, configure the HTT filter setup, subscribe the mac80211 NO_VIRTUAL_MONITOR feature, remove the VIRTUAL_MONITOR handler procedures since align to NO_VIRTUAL_MONITOR feature and prevent monitor interface to transmit packet. Therefore, add these procedures to add monitor interface support and enable the monitor interface support on the QCN9274 platform through the hardware parameter. 2025-02-28wifi: ath12k: Report proper tx completion status to mac80211Vinith Kumar R
Currently Tx completion for few exception packets are received from firmware and the tx status updated to mac80211. The tx status values of HAL_WBM_REL_HTT_TX_COMP_STATUS_DROP and HAL_WBM_REL_HTT_TX_COMP_STATUS_TTL are considered as tx failure and reported as tx failure to mac80211. But these failure status is due to internal firmware tx drop and these packets were not tried to transmit in the air. In case of mesh this invalid tx status report might trigger mpath broken issue due to increase in mpath fail average. So do not report these tx status as tx failure instead free the skb by calling ieee80211_free_txskb(), and that will be accounted as dropped frame. 2025-02-20wifi: ath12k: Add missing htt_metadata flag in ath12k_dp_tx()Nicolas Escande
When AP-VLAN support was added, the HTT_TCL_META_DATA_VALID_HTT flag was not added to the tx_info's meta_data_flags. Without this flag the firmware seems to reject all the broadcast (ap-vlan) frames. So add the flag, just as ath11k did it in the downstream QSDK project[1]. 2025-02-11wifi: ath12k: Add support for MLO Multicast handling in driverBalamurugan Mahalingam
For MLO netdevice, the broadcast frame should be transmitted with the same sequence number on all the links. Per IEEE 802.11be-2024 section 10.3.2.14.2 "Transmitter requirements", An AP MLD shall use SNS11 in Table 10-5 (Transmitter sequence number spaces) maintained by the MLD to determine the sequence number of a group addressed data frame that is transmitted by an AP affiliated with the AP MLD so that the same group addressed Data frame transmitted over multiple links by the AP MLD uses the same sequence number for transmission on each link. Currently the MLO multicast handling is done in the mac80211 layer. Enable support for handling MLO Multicast in the driver to update the hardware descriptors in a custom way to handle the multicast frames. Firmware expects the MLO multicast frames to the submitted to the hardware with special vdev_id (actual vdev_id + 128) to recognize it as a host inspected frame to avoid using the reinjected path and it also uses the multicast global sequence number (GSN) provided by the host in the HTT metadata to process and transmit it with the same sequence number. 2025-02-11wifi: ath12k: Update HTT_TCL_METADATA version and bit mask definitionsBalamurugan Mahalingam
Update the HTT_TCL_METADATA version to the latest version (2) as the bit definitions have changed a little to support more features. This new version allows the host to submit a packet with more information to the firmware. Firmware uses this additional information to do special processing for certain frames. All the firmware binaries available in upstream/public are compatible with this HTT version update. Since inception there is an obvious typo laying around in ath12k_hal_tx_cmd_ext_desc_setup(). Instead of initializing + adding flags to tcl_ext_cmd->info1, we initialize + override. This will be needed in the future to make broadcast frames work with ethernet encapsulation. 2025-01-26wifi: ath12k: Add HTT source ring ID for monitor ringsP Praneesh
Add source buffer ring and destination buffer ring ID for monitor rings. These IDs are used for ring configuration during initial ring setup. Since monitor rings are enabled based on the rxdma1_enable flag, enable it in the hardware param for the QCN9274 version 2 hardware and increase the destination ring size to handle MSDU data buffers. Currently, the transmit rate of "iw dev xxx station dump" command always show an invalid value. To address this issue, ath12k parse the info of transmit complete report from firmware and indicate the transmit rate to mac80211. This patch affects the station mode of WCN7850 and QCN9274. After that, "iw dev xxx station dump" show the correct transmit rate. 2024-10-16wifi: ath12k: prepare vif data structure for MLO handlingSriram R
To prepare the driver for MLO support, split the driver vif data structure to scale for multiple links. This requires changing the use of arvif to per link and not per hw which can now comprise of multiple links. Also since most configurations from mac80211 are done per link, do refactoring of the driver functions to apply these configurations at link level. Split ath12k_vif which is the driver private of ieee80211_vif to store link specific information as ath12k_link_vif. For default use cases the ath12k vif will have a preallocated link vif called deflink which will be used by non ML and the first link vif of ML vif. With MLO support to be added, remaining link vifs will be allocated during channel assignment where vdev create/start happens. These link vifs will be freed during interface down. The links_map in the ahvif, will be used to identify all the link vifs that are setup. 4. Change ath12k_vif_to_arvif() as ath12k_vif_to_ahvif() to fetch the hw level vif. The link vif can be fetched from ahvif->link[], or the deflink can be accessed via ahvif->deflink. API to access link vif (arvif) by passing link_id can be introduced with MLO Support. 5. The ieee80211_vif can be accessed from ahvif using ath12k_ahvif_to_vif(). The locking continues to use wiphy_lock() for protecting access to most data in struct ath12k&co, there are no changes in that regard. Though struct ath12k_vif::link[] is protected with RCU. 2024-08-05wifi: ath12k: use 128 bytes aligned iova in transmit path for WCN7850Baochen Qiang
In transmit path, it is likely that the iova is not aligned to PCIe TLP max payload size, which is 128 for WCN7850. Normally in such cases hardware is expected to split the packet into several parts in a manner such that they, other than the first one, have aligned iova. However due to hardware limitations, WCN7850 does not behave like that properly with some specific unaligned iova in transmit path. This easily results in target hang in a KPI transmit test: packet send/receive failure, WMI command send timeout etc. Also fatal error seen in PCIe level: ... Capabilities: ... ... DevSta: ... FatalErr+ ... ... ... Work around this by manually moving/reallocating payload buffer such that we can map it to a 128 bytes aligned iova. The moving requires sufficient head room or tail room in skb: for the former we can do ourselves a favor by asking some extra bytes when registering with mac80211, while for the latter we can do nothing. Moving/reallocating buffer consumes additional CPU cycles, but the good news is that an aligned iova increases PCIe efficiency. In my tests on some X86 platforms the KPI results are almost consistent. Since this is seen only with WCN7850, add a new hardware parameter to differentiate from others. Currently, the calculation of ack signal strength is incorrect. This is because before calculating the ack signal strength, ath12k need to determine whether the hardware and firmware support db2dbm. If the hardware and firmware support db2dbm, do not need to add noise floor, otherwise, need to add noise floor. Besides, the value of ack_rssi passed by firmware to ath12k should be a signed number, so change its type to s8. This patch affects QCN9274 and WCN7850 because they have the same issue. 2024-05-03wifi: ath12k: Don't drop tx_status in failure caseSven Eckelmann
When a station idles for a long time, hostapd will try to send a QoS Null frame to the station as "poll". NL80211_CMD_PROBE_CLIENT is used for this purpose. And the skb will be added to ack_status_frame - waiting for a completion via ieee80211_report_ack_skb(). But when the peer was already removed before the tx_complete arrives, the peer will be missing. And when using dev_kfree_skb_any (instead of going through mac80211), the entry will stay inside ack_status_frames thus not clean up related information in its internal data structures. This IDR will therefore run full after 8K request were generated for such clients. At this point, the access point will then just stall and not allow any new clients because idr_alloc() for ack_status_frame will fail. ieee80211_free_txskb() on the other hand will (when required) call ieee80211_report_ack_skb() and make sure that (when required) remove the entry from the ack_status_frame and clean up related information in its internal data structures. In tx completion, status desc is obtained from offsetting the address from wbm ring. Having HTT_TX_WBM_COMP_STATUS_OFFSET(8) and reserved 8 bytes in status desc offsets the address twice and read the values from the incorrect address. Hence, remove the HTT_TX_WBM_COMP_STATUS_OFFSET from wbm completion address calculation. Also this patch is applicable for WCN7850. Most of the RX descriptors fields are currently not used in the ath12k driver. Hence add support to selectively subscribe to the required quad words (64 bits) within msdu_end and mpdu_start of rx_desc. Add compact rx_desc structures and configure the bit mask for Rx TLVs (msdu_end, mpdu_start, mpdu_end) via registers. With these registers SW can configure to DMA the partial TLV struct to Rx buffer. Each TLV type has its own register to configure the mask value. The mask value configured in register will indicate if a particular QWORD has to be written to rx buffer or not i.e., if Nth bit is enabled in the mask Nth QWORD will be written and it will not be written if the bit is disabled in mask. While 0th bit indicates whether TLV tag will be written or not. Advantages of Qword subscription of TLVs - Avoid multiple cache-line misses as the all the required fields of the TLV are within 128 bytes. - Memory optimization as TLVs + DATA + SHINFO can fit in 2k buffer even for 64 bit kernel. This is because there's a function named ieee80211_tx_status() and a struct named ieee80211_tx_status. This has been discussed previously but no solution found: https://lore.kernel.org/all/20220521114629.6ee9fc06@coco.lan/ There's also a bug open for three years with no solution in sight: https://github.com/sphinx-doc/sphinx/pull/8313 So I guess we have no other solution than to a workaround this in the code, for example to rename the function to ieee80211_tx_status_skb() to avoid the name conflict. I got the idea for the name from ieee80211_tx_status_noskb() in which the skb is not provided as an argument, instead with ieee80211_tx_status_skb() the skb is provided. Compile tested only. 2023-03-24wifi: ath12k: fix packets are sent in native wifi mode while we set raw modeAaradhana Sahu
Currently, if we set raw mode as encap type, packets are sent in native wifi mode which is default mode. This is caused by no check being present for raw mode in ath12k_dp_tx_get_encap_type function, so it's always going in native wifi mode. Fix, this issue by adding check condition for raw mode. 2022-11-29wifi: ath12k: driver for Qualcomm Wi-Fi 7 devicesKalle Valo
ath12k is a new mac80211 driver for Qualcomm Wi-Fi 7 devices, first supporting QCN9274 and WCN7850 PCI devices. QCN9274 supports both AP and station; WCN7850 supports only station mode. Monitor mode is not (yet) supported. Only PCI bus devices are supported. ath12k is forked from an earlier version of ath11k. It was simpler to have a "clean start" for the new generation and not try to share the code with ath11k. This makes maintenance easier and avoids major changes in ath11k, which would have significantly increased the risk of regressions in existing setups. ath12k uses le32 and cpu_to_le32() macros to handle endian conversions, instead of using the firmware byte swap feature utilized by ath11k. There is only one kernel module, named ath12k.ko. Currently ath12k only supports HE mode (IEEE 802.11ax) or older, but work is ongoing to add EHT mode (IEEE 802.11be) support. The size of the driver is ~41 kLOC and 45 files. To make the review easier, this initial version of ath12k does not support Device Tree, debugfs or any other extra features. Those will be added later, after ath12k is accepted to upstream. The driver is build tested by Intel's kernel test robot with both GCC and Clang. Sparse reports no warnings.
